Dropkick Murphys have quietly announced their next studio album, Going Out in Style. The long-running Boston punks are releasing the album - their seventh - on March 1, 2011. The 13-song album will be released while the band is on the road with Against Me! and it is their first since The Meanest of Times.

dont worry about the crowd. dont let the crowd sully your love this band. this band been putting out consistant music true to their spirit from the start. so what if they have a bro audiance. they didnt actively go out and played music for that audiance. i say go out, see them, and enjoy the music and fuck everyone else around you or better yet, share it in good times if only 45 min to an hour while they are on stage.

Saw them a few weeks ago. First of all, they're still great live. Second, they did a drinking contest on stage. Not only is that irresponsible but it's also immature. What are they, frat boys? And there was this girl participating that took one sip and she was out. The same girl and her friend are these two chicks that go to shows in DC and Baltimore just to molest people. Seriously they're not even into the music, all they do is come up behind u and rub their hands all over u. My fiancée almost punched them out once. Then there was a fight because some guy got pissed off at them and another guy was defending them.

Why would a gas light crowd be a punk rock crowd? . Ive been waiting a long time to say this but ... 59 sound was so boring , I literally fell asleep at my laptop when I felt a need to listen to it when so many punknews peeps had it as album of the year a couple years back . Anyone ive personally met who likes gaslight spends more money on clothes than records and shows combined(never a good sign) . Dropkick gets played at baseball games , hockey games , in alternative clubs and on several video games so other people were bound to like it . Id rather a bunch of drunk frat boys than a bunch a pacivist pussies in pea coats and designer sweaters for a dropkick show.

It won't be better than The Warrior's Code, but I'll probably get it anyway. I bought Meanest of Times and didn't regret it. It wasn't great, but it was good.

Probably in the minority, but I think their non-Irish sounding songs are their best. "Gang's All Here" was such a brutal record.

Fuck "Shipping Up to Boston," hated it on "Give Em the Boot 4," hate it more now.

Shipping up to Boston is such a shit song with shit lyrics, it's popularity is truly baffling to me. I personally only like Do or Die by Dropkick, I could never get into the new singer really

I love the Irish stuff, so long as it's not mindless and gimmicky, like that god-awful "Shipping up to Boston" song.

And Al is better than Mike in DKM. Mike has found his place in the 'Dogs.

I wasn't aware that they ever fought. I remember reading Mike say he had no beef with the guys...and this was a long time ago.

It is funny though how "2 Bottles" is "Far Away Coast", "Tale of Mass Deception" is "Wheel of Misfortune", and "Bobby Powers" shares a certain similarity with "Caught in a Jar". Whatever. I love both bands equally. And Mike is a shitload better in the Street Dogs. This is HIS band, HIS outlet.

oh and for everyone talking about how shitty the lyrics to shipping up to boston are... thats not a dropkick song. they didn't write it. its a woody guthrie song. a lot of songs dropkick plays are written by woody guthrie. tons of irish bands including the pogues cover woody guthrie. when dropkick covers guthrie, they go to his house in washington, massachusetts and go through a giant book and pick what songs they want to do. (woody's been dead, but his son arlo guthrie still lives in the same three houses, up on the hill and i'm friends with woody's grandson Krishna.)

It's not so much the song itself that's the problem, yeah, its stupid, but could have just passed as a "fucking around" song...the problem is that IT BECAME THEIR BIGGEST HIT! What the fuck? The band that has given us timeless, meaningful songs like "Heroes of Our Past", "Wheel of Misfortune", and "Never Alone" gets known for a song that sounds suited for a Pirates of the Caribbean commercial! And now flocks of people with no taste in music (and certainly no knowledge of DKM's Oi roots) come to show up at the shows after their mommy gives them money. So they spend the night drinking cheap beer, only to hear one shitty song, and getting in the way of the old fans. Fuckers don't even know the rest of the songs. Fuck them. If DKM's biggest hit was, say..."Last Letter Home" or "God Willing" I'd be all for it, because those are legit songs with meaning. Hell, I was happy when "State of Mass..." got big because it's a great song! It's the same thing with the Clash getting big for "Rock the Casbah", it's pandering to the lowest common denominator.

Let me make it perfectly clear: I LOVE DKM, old and new. Their shows are always phenomenal because they play a good mix of songs. "Shipping up to Boston" and "Kiss Me I'm Shitfaced" are small prices to pay for hearing their other songs live. But these frat boys have GOT to go.

And for the record, only TWO dropkick songs are written by Guthrie. Doesn't exactly qualify as "a lot", sorry.

I know this is a shock, but when a band scores a big hit people are going to show up who weren't really fans of the band in the first place. Dropkick Murphys is no more immune to this than any other band out there, no matter what their roots are.

I like the song, and I'm glad that after nearly fifteen years of hard work they've basically become ambassadors for their city (perhaps taking the Bosstones' place after that band went on hiatus? But I digress). In the end, the increased exposure means they'll make more money in the long run and be able to better provide for their families. Is that such a bad thing?

Again, you seem to misunderstand. I don't care if a band gets famous, especially these guys, but a song like "Shipping up to Boston" does NOT represent this band. It's like being a brilliant artist and getting known for drawing a dick on your school paper or something. Do any of these new fans care about the old stuff? No. Do any of these fans really care about the AMAZING material released on the past three albums? Don't think so. All they want is gimmick.

I have no problem with getting big, these guys began as working class joes and I applaud them for being able to provide for their families. It just bugs me WHICH songs they get known for. Which really isn't their fault at all, band members like Al, Scruffy, and Matt have been reported to be sick to death of the success of a song they didn't even write. I put in another topic that I was happy when "State of Mass." became a hit cause thats actually a REALLY good song.
