Pacific Ridge Records has released a 39-track compilation of Alkaline Trio covers. The collection is titled A Tribute to Alkaline Trio and features covers from Koji, Rattlesnake Gunfight, Punchline, Into It. Over It., I Can Make a Mess Like Nobody's Business, and many more.

it says a lot about Dan's songwriting skill that when I hear the melody, a little bit of my brain goes "hey, you like this song, awesome!" but then the rest goes "sweet jesus, i'd rather blow a tramp than ever hear this shit again!"

i'm surprised at how much i quite like the material's cover of "bleeder." basically sounds like paramore covering it - different enough to warrant inclusion and i'm quite partial to female vocals with harmonies, even if they are a bit overproduced.

I'm always blown away by how popular this band is. I don't think I've even met a an Alkaline Trio fan. Hell, I haven't even heard a song of there's since their first album. Which I can't even remember the name of. I'm either completely out of touch or really fucking cool.

I'm always blown away by people's inability to know the difference between "there" and "their" (and by extension, "they're"). I don't think I've even met a person who knows how to use those words correctly. Hell, I haven't even seen any of those words used in the proper context since the grade I learned them in. Which I can't even remember which grade it was. I'm either completely out of touch or everyone else is really fucking dumb.

"i lied my face off" is one of my favorite tunes ever. This isn't one of the real bad covers, but it's just the same music with some dude with a slightly off-putting voice doing dan. not so great.

Pretty much the entire comp for me. Around 30 of those bands I've never heard of on a name basis. if I'm going to get into a new band, it's not because they rehashed an a3 song with an acoustic guitar and sang it with half the passion.

most of the covers are solid and pretty faithful to the original songs (sadie for one), but none of them have given me any reason to really listen to the comp instead of the actual albums. not that they are awful or anything, they're just ho-hum and from people i've never heard and who mostly sound pretty similar to each other.

i guess i just enjoy familiarity when it comes to covers. i like hearing slightly more established artists who are pretty well defined in their own voice to adapt the classics under their own style.

there are some really solid bands on here (though i admit doing less than stellar covers)
you're missing out if you don't know who Jonah or Rob Huddleston are (check out their former bands, both have incredible pasts with great bands)

I can tell you firsthand that When We Team up had absolutely no influence from Alkaline Trio. They saw an opportunity to put their name out there and try to get people to pay attention to them, and they took it.
It was in no way an effort to pay tribute to the Trio. Simply an attempt to get a step up.
