The Gaslight Anthem have posted a new video, for their song "Here Comes My Man." The song appears on their latest album, this year's Handwritten.

What's a band playing at the fest who isn't well known but will blow me away if I see them? That Menzingers show at the Fest 8 blew me away and I barely knew them at all then. I want something similar to happen this year.

Two of my most anticipated smaller bands are playing at the same time: Direct Hit! and Captain We're Sinking. My friend says CWS puts on a hell of a show, but I'm leaning toward DH. I don't think you could go wrong with either though.

Captian We're Sinking will blow you away. I've seen them a bunch of times and they never fail to disappoint.

Yeah, I've seen them before. Saw them open for the Menzingers once, I'm pretty sure one of the guys in CWS is related to one of the guys in Menzingers.

Japandroids just said lets make a record and try to give every track some kind of hook. Keep each song a modest length. We'll just get in the studio and crank this fucker out. Lets not over think the production too much. And when people come to see us live they will just sing a long. It will be a good time.

My point is that sometimes I think i'm jaded (and that's true to a point) and maybe I don't get the new sounds of Gaslight Anthem. Just seems like Butter knife Rock n Roll to me. Not all of their stuff.

Really? It's my least favorite. I feel like it's the only track that is what people THINK Gaslight sound like (i.e. corny and kind of dad jamz-y).

I think "mulholland drive" or "mae" deserve videos more-they feel more epic and cinematic to me. But the reason I love Brian Fallon as a songwriter is that like Springsteen, Westerberg, and Van Morrison, he puts a lot of compassion and empathy into his songs so they're not just songs but also stories. You can feel the environment and the emotions surrounding them because there's so much detail ("I think I will grow my hair back out"? Fucking genius).

So, she has a crappy boyfriend, goes to the movies, sees a nice guy on the screen, imagine herself being with that guy, and watch The Gaslight Anthem on another screen, then she wakes up and walk pass her boyfriend?

Someone call Spielberg, that's a hit!

"45" and "Howl" are still the best tracks off Handwritten. Not sure why they picked this one.

45 was the first single and Howl is too short to be a radio single.

I agree with you though, I wouldn't have picked this either.

Here's how I feel about it, Gaslight wants to sell out stadiums. I don't see it happening but if it does that's freaking awesome for them. They're hardworking, talented guys who deserve it.

Unfortunately they still write records that just don't translate well on public radio. Good for us, bad for what they seem to be trying to achieve.

For me this was a solid record but I feel like they're trying so damn hard to distance themselves from the "Bruce" stigma that they really are just losing what made them great in the first place. The lyrics are less profound and a bit bland and there's not a lot of risk in the actual composition.

Fact is, they were never TRYING to sound like Bruce Springsteen, they just kind of did and there was nothing wrong with it because it was great.
