Media: My Chemical Romance: “Boy Division” and “Tomorrow's Money”

My Chemical Romance have released two songs from Conventional Weapons, their shelved album. The band explained the deal back in September:

we planned on making a specific kind of record, we wrote songs to fit that specific plan, and then we flogged ourselves for it not feeling right, organic, or complete. After almost a year of beating ourselves up, we ended up shelving those ill-fated songs, and reconnected with Rob Cavallo and Doug McKean to salvage our band and make what would become Danger Days. I don't think the songs are bad songs, they just so happened to have been created in the wrong place, at the wrong time. So we will be releasing 2 songs a month for 5 months. 10 songs in total from the Conventional Weapons sessions we did back in 2009.

Update: The band's label has removed the songs.

You might as well just take the article down as the videos were removed.

I was going to say though, I don't consider myself a fan of My Chemical Romance, but I don't mind them. There are definitely worse bands out there. There's a song or two by these guys that I would say are a guilty pleasure of mine.

I remember making fun of them, and similar bands a lot in like 2006, but compared to Skrillex/whatever else kids are listening to these days, they might as well be The Clash.

Agreed. I always thought they were sort of the epitome of bland mall punk, but they aren't THAT bad, it can get much, much worse. As far as comparisions to their "peers", I'd take them over Fall Out Boy in a heartbeat.

Of course, I'm basing this opinion on somewhere around 4 songs, that's about all I've ever heard by them. Never saw a reason to go any further.

This. I actually like MCR quite a lot - and even saw them with Alkaline Trio way back when ('05?) - but in this case, the "guilty" wins out over the "pleasure", which is why I prefer never to speak of them or their hideous hairstyles in public.

I probably would have checked out the songs out of boredom since they were here and it was convenient, but since the label removed the songs, I will probably now go my entire life without ever hearing them. Good promotional move, label.

oh come on, do some research, they're re uploading the songs on youtube every 5 minutes. by the way, they're a great band, first three records are amazing, you might not like them because of their fans or because how they look but seriously they make some great stuff and these new songs are definately better than the last record.

I don't know what kind of album you listened to but Danger Days is easily the best thing they've ever done.

I remember seeing them on a little stage at warped tour in front of maybe forty people before three cheers came out. I was pretty impressed. I liked the first record and three cheers but when the helena(good song) video came out. I knew they were doomed. They just got commercial way too quick...

I remember seeing them on a giant stage as the main headliners of Warped Tour 05 or 06 or 07. Everybody streamed out right after NOFX played except for a relatively small group of scene kids. Rightfully so.

That's odd. I went to a few shows in 05, for some reason, and they and Fall Out Boy had the biggest crowds each day.

Ugh, i hate emo music, at least modern emo. When a band sounds like fall out boy and thier fanbase is anything other than the same 12 yo girls who like the jonas bros and twilighf movies...im ashamed of pop culture. I despise what warped has become. I used to just climb whatever fence and go ser us bombs, hwm, nofx,bosstones. One year a bosstones dude did a legit human cannonball. It used to be a thing that brought out teens and 30 yo alike...now its for teeny boppers...a damn shame...

bullets is good, 3 cheers is ok, its fun, but i really can't stand anything else this band has done...leathermouth fuckin rules tho

I like this band, a lot actually. They have some good stuff I can listen too. Their over all discography isn't mind blowing but it's good, Bullets on the other hand is great.
