Videos: The Gaslight Anthem: “National Anthem”

The Gaslight Anthem have released a video for their song "National Anthem," as part of an effort to raise awareness for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts taking place in New Jersey. The band has teamed with PunkCares.org to raise funds for said efforts.

Great song and cause

Being far from Hurricane Sandy I obvioul-sy knew about it however having seen those photos now it was way more devastating than I thought

It was pretty awful. On my block trees and power lines were down. We didn't have power for 11 days. But with that being said we didn't have any damage to our house and considering there are towns that are gone now I have nothing to complain about.

I mean absolutely no disrespect to all the people who suffered and lost something or someone to Hurricane Sandy, and I totally support raising founds to help them, but seeing the video I thought to myself: why the hell most american houses are built of fragile wood? I mean, it's like people never read Three Little Pigs. In a country constantly struck by hurricanes, tornadoes, floodings and earthquakes (in different parts of the country, I know) I would expect houses to built of bricks, concrete or even stone and to have foundations and such. Maybe wood is cheaper, but loosing everything and having to rebuild entire cities is definitely not cheaper or wiser in the long term. Also, even in some very poor places in Brazil, most houses are build with bricks, even if poorly constructed by the inhabitants themselves in slums...
