Some video has surfaced of The Gaslight Anthem performing a new song live, tentatively titled "Halloween." The band most recently released Handwritten in 2012.

I like it a lot better than most of the songs on Handwritten. The guitars sound a lot better. I kind of hated the big rock n' roll riffs on Handwritten.

This. I remember reading this album was going to be something to please Sink or Swim fans, and it ended up being a super tame blues album with rock 'n' roll riffs. I'm not so sure I can get into Handwritten, even now.

It pisses me off when I see people in bands wearing leather jackets on stage; it happens so often and it must be fucking unbearably hot up there. That just screams to me 'image is a priority,' and it's kinda douchey.

I remember seeing social d at a warped tour , it was like mid July. Mr mess wore leauge jacket the whole time. Idk how he did it. Had to be 100+.

I don't see why image being a priority makes them douchey. I think it's more douchey to not give a shit about your stage presence if people are paying to see you.

I could give a shit about what the Gaslight Anthem wears on stage but I've seen a ton of killer bands in t-shirts and shorts who had no lack of "stage presence".

That's fine, but I still don't see a reason to automatically think a band is douchey just because of what they wear on stage. Not getting dressed up for a show is just another decision as to how you want people to perceive your band.

Exactly, and caring too much about "how people perceive your band" is taking style over substance, which tends not to be a fun road for a band (or fans of the band) to go down.

It depends. You get there and it's pretty comfortable for the first couple songs, 'cause it's cold outside and shit.
It doesn't really get bad until almost the end of the set, and if it's super casual you take the time to take it off and get comfortable and stuff, but if i were trying to give off a professional image I'd just keep going.

I guess it's more excusable if the venue has air conditioning or something, but I can't bear to wear a leather jacket indoors in a club or arena show, it gets way too hot almost immediately.

I get what ExtraCheese is saying about stage presence too, but with the former in mind.. I dunno. It just seems really impractical to me for the sake of nothing other than 'looking cool'. This is punk rock, not pop - choice of clothing just seems superficial to me. If you're bringing the right energy, surely it shouldn't matter what you're wearing.

I really enjoy all the songs on Handwritten, but I wish Brian had developed about half of them as Horrible Crowes songs.
A badass, bluesy Horrible Crowes EP, and a fast, punk-esque Gaslight EP as their major label debut. It would've been a good year.

Totally agree. I thought the whole impetus behind the horrible crows record was so the Brian could get out all his bluesy slower tempo type crap so they could make a proper gaslight record when it came time. IMO the crows record was better than Handwritten turned out...not enough rising action!

Indeed. The Horrible Crowes live was basically just Gaslight with Alex on keyboards. I'm guessing they had so much fun with Ian being on stage, compared to when he was just a guitar tech, that they had him join Gaslight.

Ehh, first minute or so bored the hell out of me, and reminded me of their slower songs (which I've always felt have been Gaslight's weak points)... Got better, more energetic, etc. toward the end. They should rework the song later to cut it to two guitars, though, because having three for that was mostly pointless.

Yeah, I'm a huge TGA fan. But...this song hasn't hit me hard yet. It's alright, I feel the lyrics are a bit all over the place, if that makes sense. Maybe it's not finished yet. Who knows.
