Media: No Use for a Tribute Name stream demos

Montreal's No Use For A Tribute Name have posted a two song stream of their demo which features covers of No Use for a Name's songs "International You Day" and "Dumb Reminders" from 2002's Hard Rock Bottom.

We've also posted the originals for you to compare. What do you think of this tribute and/or tribute bands in general?

Not really sure what the intention is... But I guess it's good that Tony's songs are still getting played in some way, shape or form.

Also, it would've been better to call the band "No Use For A Tribute" and dropped the "Name" from the end.

Looking forward to that Fat Wreck Chords tribute album that's coming out sometime this year. I know a bunch of Fat bands will be on it, but I'm not sure if it is just Fat bands (probably not).

Is this actually happening? I remember people posting that it would be a f'in A great idea, but I never saw a confirmation. (I hope it is happening)

Old Man Markley confirmed they were doing a track for the tribute. That's all thats known so far.

I think tribute bands are great for the live, I'm so glad I can sometimes listen to the ramones or the clash and drink beers in a crowded pub with real musician playing !
On a disc, I don't find it funny enough...

In other news, I pulled off a pretty amazing rendition of Chasing Rainbows in the shower this morning and I managed to do so without adding unnecessary vocal harmony in the first verse.

I performed a pretty admirable Vandals tribute in the shower this morning. Stuck mostly to their newer material--Disproportioned Head; Fourteen; Behind the Music; and, of course, Supercalifragilisticexpealidocious. Nailed the vocals. Dave Quackenbush would be proud.

Well they're good at least. Living in Montreal, I would have no problem seeing them live. I don't see the point of the recordings though, the originals are not hard to find. It's much better to listen to those. A punk band covers a punk band... That's like a spoof movie spoofing a comedy.

I've always wondered how the punk rock community would react to punk cover bands or a "Punk Rock Hall of Fame" or anything else that's usually reserved for dinosaur rock acts. With indifference I suspect.

why the fuck is this getting coverage? there are thousands of worthy new bands putting out new music everyday that don't get covered on this site. what about a NUFAN tribute act is newsworthy here? are any of these guys from notable projects besides this?

These are not very good covers, unfortunately. However, they do help to reinforce my belief that most users here never gave enough credit to NUFAN for being a very competent punk band. No, they were never truly original, but all the main components (vocals, lyrics, musicianship) were solid. You can`t say the same thing about this tribute act.
