Ha ha, at least nobody's going to complain that the major label has softened their sound. Awesome. -adam 3+ Replies

Damn. That's actually less melodic than a lot of the last record was, and much harder.
Someone (July 3, 2004)
They just get hader and harder, although a few of the songs on The Unraveling were ridiculously hard. 1+ Reply

oK follow these directions. Put your index finger and your pinky in the air. Now undo your hair NOW ROOOOCK!
Someone (July 3, 2004)
It's harder....not faster....maybe a little more metallic??? I dunno. I still like their faster stuff better than their slower more personal songs, or songs like this. 3+ Replies

If I didn't know this was Rise Against....... I wouldn't know that it was Rise Against. I don't really dig the blues-based chord progression, but it's a pretty alright song.
Someone (July 3, 2004)
HOLY CRAP! -- i just hope the whole album sounds like this. If the album sounds like this then why the hell did Todd leave if there were creative differences?? makes one wonder
Someone (July 3, 2004)
god dam major fucking labels. they ruined this band for me. before they were perfect. now theyr are too hard and shit. majors always fuck it up. fuck, i bet before those damn major execs heard this and started puttin in their two cents it was a rippin awesome power pop ballad. - stevejones8770@yahoo.com - jones the bones 12+ Replies

This is why i love rise against. Even with songs like this, you can't still tell its Tim singing, and he still sounds the same like he did in baxter and the killing tree, but just more screamy. Cool song too, great guitar intro. 3+ Replies

Headbangers ball here we go. Yeah, it's gonna be awesome to see all the steakhead bands namedrop rise against, this song is just hardcore bullcrap. I always thought rise against was better when they softed down a bit and took advantage of the great lyrical skills. Now they will go the same path as the bronx. 1+ Reply
Manifesto (July 3, 2004)
This song simply rocks. It's different from their earlier work, but in a good way. Don't get me wrong, I liked The Unraveling and Revolution Per Minute as much as the next guy, but State Of The Union fits my tastes better. I only hope all songs from Siren Song To The Counter Culture will sound this good.

i really don't get why people are all excited about RA's 'new' sound... i honestly think they wrote this one hard song to get people psyched up but the rest of the record will probably not be like this.. like the other person said, eh on the blues chord progression and i like when they are more melodic. people just seem a liiitttle brainwashed. 3+ Replies
Someone (July 3, 2004)
The song was good and hard but it wasent the Rise Against we all know. It just sounded like your average run of the mill hardcore song. Nothing made it stand out and there was no raw emotional lyrics that always made me love Rise Against. I was at there show in Arlington Heights last month and there was 1 other new song they played and it was much better than this song. If the whole cd sounds like this song I can see why Todd left, Todd wanted people to play in a band where the songs really meant something to people and were deep and not just a bunch of bullshit. 2+ Replies
Someone (July 3, 2004)
Haha, I love how this band can't seem to win. If they wrote a soft song, people would be bitching about how they've changed their sound. Instead, they went in an unexpected harder direction, and people still bitch. Classic.
Someone (July 3, 2004)
Look at the song title...if you were expecting something soft, you are most likely retarded. 1+ Reply

Does it bother anyone else that these guys are a blatant rip off of Strung Out/Bigwig/Strike Anywhere and yet none of those bands are doing nearly as well as this band? I think Rise Against's music rips and i love melodic hardcore, but I def. think a band like Bigwig or Strike Anywhere deserve more popularity/praise/hype than this band. Last thing, RPM was def. the best CD of 2003. hands down. 10+ Replies

The whole album won't be like this. Call this their "Black Masks and Gasoline" track of this album. "Anywhere but Here" is another song that leaked, in vein of "Heaven Knows", just slightly softer. Ignore the poppy intro of ABH, and its a solid fuckin song. I can't wait for this release. 1+ Reply
Someone (July 3, 2004)
I think this songs sucks, Its seems obvious to me that Geffen didn't want Rise Against to become pop-punk like blink, but appartenly made them try and sound like slipknot or some other hardcore rock band. Seriously, anyone on this site should know that that song was hardcore rock and metal, not the punk-hardcore that Rise Against used to play. So, I must declare, "sell outs" 7+ Replies
Someone (July 3, 2004)
This is not the rise against i know and love. speed it the fuck up. Between this and the song on the Rock Against Bush comp im losing faith in them. Rise Against mostly are melodic hardcore. theres no melody what so ever in this song. Bah. 2+ Replies
Someone (July 3, 2004)
People...its one song. And a good one imo. Not that it matters, especially since I am sure there will be a variety of sounds on this album. That is probably the best thing about going to a major label, you can afford to have a variety of sounds on one album. 2+ Replies

i think i'll add my praise, even though it's abundant as it is...sounds pretty rippin'
Someone (July 4, 2004)
Awesome fucking song, but I hope the majority of the album is not like this. It would still be awesome, but would get old pretty fast.

they dont rip off any bands. they created a really unique style of melodic hardcore that was inspired by bands like Good Riddance

RPM was so good to me that i will buy this CD out of pure respect for the band... but if it does not meet my approval i will not buy their next record... simple as that, listen and judge for yourself, i won't bother to stream anything i only download official mp3 or wait till the album is actually released... CDs are so cheap right now... if you can afford to be on the internet right now you can afford to buy a 14$ CD...

All I can say is, I've heard an advance of the record and it's fucking great. I'm sure many of you won't believe me, but that's fine. I too was a little surprised by this track (its the first song on the album), but the rest of the album is straight up classic Rise Against. I do love this song by the way. The tracklist a few posts above is wrong in case you were wondering. If you liked the last record, you'll dig this one just as much if not more. I can't imagine this album sounding a single note different if it had been released on Fat.
Someone (July 4, 2004)
Everyone here seems to like it, but I thought it was pretty cheesy. The guitar opening seems ripped off. Also, I never listened to RPM that much... but did Tim always scream on that CD? I mean, what is their major trying to do to them.... make them into this pseudo-hardcore band... which I don't think they are or ever have been?? 1+ Reply

rise against rules the world, they are without a doubt my favorite band. I just listened to this song for the first time, cant say its my favorite but it definatly rocks. I cant wait til the new album comes out. if anyones got a copy of that other song that leaked email me at pistonbroke@hotmail.com and let me know where i can get it.
Someone (July 5, 2004)
I'm quite shure the album won't be this way. They just gave it to make us believe that they won't become softer because they've signed a mayor (AFI..etc). They sound of the drum really rips but I hate the guitars, they sound horrilbe!! I loved their RPM guitar sound, just some normal JCM900.

if anybody has the two new songs could you please send them to me over msn??.. troy@newworldonfire.com thanks so much
Someone (July 8, 2004)
My guess is that they released this song in advance to prove that they haven't gone soft since signing to a major. One song doesn't mean the rest are this heavy. I bet a lot will have the feel of RPM only more mid paced drumming, and then there will be a few more that are toned down a bit, and one more as heavy as this one...just a thought.
Someone (July 9, 2004)
its good....im more of a fan of their punk stuff so this song wasnt exactly my favorite....but its still damn good! and dont even compare it to the killing tree cause its nothing like it! im very interested to see what the rest of this album is going to be like....im sure it will still have the punk edge to it...im just hoping they didnt give up on the melodic stuff. first dan left...damn good guitar player....then todd...he seemed to do a damn good job...i hope the new guy fits the bill and picks up where the others left off! there were a couple of other guitar players in the band but all the writing credits go to dan, todd, and chris? the new guy. anyways ill shut up
Someone (July 15, 2004)
This song isnt bad, but it is a little too hard for me but i still like it, i liked their previous songs with the faster drumming, but the cd is definately gonna be good, that song give it all is gonna be on it i think, and thats a good fucking song, i think these songs just shows their diversity to be awesome in whatever they do. so rock on rise against you still have my support
Someone (July 15, 2004)
FUCCCKKK NO!...I'm sorry but what a piece of shit!!...those two songs are horrible...i thought give it aqll was bad..'this anywhere but here' song sucks huge nuts...a pop punk disaster of a chorus and does anybody notcie that the verses are a direct ripoff of the verses from 'broken english'? try singing along to it...he even says the word down at the exact same time..the pressures on boys.. make some money for big daddy dreamworks.
Someone (July 15, 2004)
I'd love the two song, give it all and this one, I just think that state of the union is the hardest song of the cd like deadringer on rpm and the art of losing on the unraveling. I'm a big fan of rise and I'm sure that the new cd will be fucking awsome.ROCK ON !

These songs have also been released on some warped tour demos around the country. Does anyone have them that they could send to me? AIM pwpayne130 it would be greatly appreciated and plus i might have something you dont Thanks!
Someone (July 26, 2004)
this song is pretty good. not awesome but good. i really hope the other songs are really fast like ones from RPM. another thing is, i dont really hear the bass like on the other cd's. joes bass usually sounds really metallic and stands out, but you cant really hear it on any of the new songs.
Someone (July 27, 2004)
ok...ive just heard four more songs from the album...yeah fuck the people who said a major would change rise against...the only reason this album has overproduced multilayered vocals, guitars buried in the mix, simple plan pop punk pieces, nickelback rock breakdowns, acoustic interludes in the middle of songs, and overall horrible songwriting is because thats how rise against wanted it...im sure they told dreamworks where to shove their dollars and dreamworks didn';t have any influence over the radio rock sound of this album....
i'm sorry people, but it happened...'state of the union' was released so the older fans would get all hyped and buy the new album day one, without hearing it. the two song sampler with the cheesy pop punk song was givin out at warped, because why??..did anybody notice that warped is about as commercial as you can get now...its all pop punk, emo and cel phone a show rest of comment 2+ Replies
