Man, along with The Clash debut, this is the best punk rock record ever. And is a pity that american critics, as self righteous as ever, consider the Ramones debut as the true landmark of punk, the first, the punkest, etc. I say that i like a lot the Ramones, and their first album is a landmark of rock music, but Never Mind The Bollocks fucking stands out. If amateurish playing and bad sound quality are punk signals, then Ramones Lp is punker than Pistols', but the truth is that songs like "Bodies", "Seventeen" or "God Save the Queen" are much more agressive, musically and lyrically than the Queens' quartet. The Ramones debut talks about pop culture, horror films, and being an adolescent, the Sex Pistols talked 'bout being fooled by the government, nihilism, being upset with the stupid monarchy and stuff.

I'd just like to add that while Sid did contribute rumbling bass noise to Bodies, it was taken out in production because it didn't sound good.

Glen was the bassist on NMTB... In the end, Sid had nothing to do with it.

Isn't it just fantastic that so many people know so little about such an outstanding band? The main review for this album is ultimately a put-down to how great it is. And some of you fuckers below should really read up on this group... You know far to little about them.

I love the Pistols, the Ramones, and the Stooges. Yet, the Pistols were the first truly Punk Rock band. The Stooges were Glam. The Ramones were Pop without brains. The Pistols were raw energy... Powerful and confrontational.

Something extraordinary about this album is that every song means something. Holidays In The Sun is an account of a terrible vacation in Berlin. Bodies is a shock joke about a mentally ill girl from Birmingham that would wind up at Steve Jones' doorstep from time to time. No Feelings is about Teddy Boys and the lot who have just that --- No Feelings. Liar was directed at McLaren. God Save The Queen was, well, you all know that one. Same goes for Anarchy In The U.K., as well as Seventeen and Pretty Vacant. New York was a put-down of the New York scene, mostly of the Dolls and their claims of being the "originators" of Punk. EMI, well, was a message to... EMI.

It's just ludicrous to say something like "The Velvet Underground started Punk!!". Everybody knows they were Beatnicks. And everybody knows that the Stooges were an amalgam of Glam and Garage Rock. Same goes for the New York Dolls. I'm really getting fed up with these Nu-Age posers and their jealousy of the Pistols.

However, that jealousy is well-founded. The Pistols could out-play any Punk band at the time, and they can out-play just about any Rock band today (Jones and Matlock are outstanding when live). It's funny that you turds start insulting a band that died 26 years ago because they could out-play your Nu-Age shit.

So its not about any type of message? You have to be an expert guitarist to be in a punk band? BS. That's what punk was all about. Very powerful punk music. Comparing them to Blink 182? Laughable! Rotten was the greatest vocalist of the punk era. The Ramones DID last longer. But did they ever have diversity? If the Pistols went on for twenty more years putting out the same old shit, they would be just as famous. But the Pistols are mostly overlooked because too many Americans think that quantity means quality and that English bands have nothing to say. The people who critisize the Sex Pistols just don't understand the poverty of the poor in England. The Pistols were the FIRST political punk rockers, and every political punk rock band after them sucked, and so did most other punk bands. Why must people act like they're choosing sides? English bands have just as much say as American ones- and often MORE to say. Whos' lyrics are better than PiLs', the Clashs', or Crass'? Certainly not the ones who made Blitzkrieg Bop.

Never Mind the Bullocks is one of the GREATEST albums of all time in any genre.

I just saw the Sex Pistols play at the Inland Invasion 2 in Los Angeles. (A little "Holiday in the Sun" if you will.) They played with the Offspring, Social Distortion, The Damned, The Buzzcocks, G.B.H., X, TSOL, and many, many more. It was the largest gathering of Punks ever!

To those that hate them, I hate to tell you this, but they blew every other band there away. They were as vibrant and vitally important as they were in 1976. They have not lost one bit of their edge.

The playing of Steve Jones(guitar), Paul Cook(drums) and Glen Matlock(original bassist) has never sounded better. Johnny Rotten seems to get angrier every year, and who could blame him...The current state of "Punk" is for the most part a huge fucking joke. Ant the worst part is that most of the shit bands involved don't even realize that they are jokes!!! HA HA HA It really isn't funny!

With a few exceptions, most of the modern bands that call themselves "Punk" have no clue as to what it means. They are projecting an image that was already established long ago. These little "Trust Fund Punks" are not going against the system, and are complacent to sit back and collect the corporate label's fat paychecks. They are wearing Abercrombie & Fitch clothes on STAGE!!!! (Fucking Lame!)

The most angst they ever felt in their life was the fact that "Mummy & Daddy" wouldn't get them a BMW at graduation or they got punch on their tux at prom.

Bodies is the best song on that album and Sid DID contribute to Bollocks, but it was only on Bodies.

Contrary to popular belief, the Sex Pistols except that moron Vicious knew how play their instruments. The original bassist, who wrte the songs, was fired and replaced by Vicious because he had that "punk" attitude. The Sex Pistols were just a glam rock band using safety pins and leather jackets instead of high heels and make-up. Listen to the New York Dolls. The Sex Pistols totally ripped off of them. They weren't serious about anarchy or anything else. The music is pretty bland and lacks energy too.
They claimed to be the middle finger to the rock and roll dinosaurs of the day (Led Zepplin, Who...). So what did they do 20 years after this album? Reunited as old dinosaurs in a hilarious attempt to get money.

though my favorite punk bands consist of social distortion, rancid, falling sickness, anti-flag, green day, slaughter and the dogs, and the ramones, my favorite punk rock record is "Never Mind the Bollocks..." This is the greatest record. Every song is geniously written with true witty anarchy. I've never seen a band besides the sex pistols who have stayed true to what they believe. The Sex Pistols are the only true punk rock band, and because they only have one record, "Nevermind the Bollocks..." is the only punk rock album that matters.

They didnt start punk, they didnt do anything new at all. They just brought it to the mainstream through publicity stunts. (Though some of the stuff they did and said is quite funny, I'll give that credit) Otherwise the Sex Pistos are one giant contradction. They were formed by a manager to promote his boutique. Why? Cause they looked sexy i.e. Sex Pistols. (Know any other bands that formed like that?) The Sex Pistols weren't talented or intelligent, but they made one helluva a great noise. At their worst(which is always)they are still more fucking interesting then any band since 1994. They love your hate more than anything else.

Of course they weren't the only band from england, and there were bands better than them. Bands that even lasted longer and made better albums during the following years. But ask any real punkrocker of today, and no-way will he piss on the pistols the way you kids do. That would be like fucking Oasis saying the Beatles meant nothing to them. A fucking lie! Do you really think Lars Fredriksen would have sounded that great without being influenced by the Pistols? Many bands may claim not to be inspired by them at all and many of them are probably right. But that can't cover the fact that they put out one of rock-historys strongest debut-albums, even though it was to become their last one too.

Made sure this genre would surivive? The Sex Pistols sucked, no way of changing that fact, they didn't help the punk scene, they thought that punk should've died with them cause they were the end all gods of punk. It's bands like The Clash that made a punk a legitimate music style with actual talent and respect, and it was bands like the Dead Kennedys and Black Flag that preserved punk in the 80's and Bad Religion who preserved punk for the 90's. To me, one of the Ramones were incredibly more important to punk, and as i am now seeing, the clash were even more so. I cant listen to one clash song without hearing fifteen other bands in it. genius. The Stooges came first...and were broken up almost five years before the Pistols even released an album! Although, "punk" was used first to describe the clients at the London underground clubs in the newspaper... well, according to A&E anyways. Unless you were around in 77-78 for the explosion, I'm guessing you have no idea exactly what the Pistols did do, without intent, for the music scene. It's kind of like Nirvana, they weren't the first, the best, or even close... but they did turn the eyes of the world on to a whole sub-culture.
