One of the originators of the British punk scene along with The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Buzzcocks, and UK Subs, The Damned are one of the few who have endured through the years, albeit overcoming some break-ups and innumerable line-up changes. Playing their first gig in 1976 with The Sex Pistols, these innovative souls who were the first British punk band to tour in America, actually just played Warped Tour 2002 and released a record on Nitro in 2001 entitled Grave Disorder. How's that for persistance and resiliency? Briefly stated, The Damned are the definitive punk/goth band, giving way to those present princes of darkness, AFI and have influenced tons of other bands as well. My favorite songs are Anti-Pope (great lyrics), Machine gun Etiquete, and These Hands. Dave Vanian sounds like Jim Morrison gone psychoticly evil. Yes, I know, Danzig sounds like Morrison as well, but in a different way. The Damned....fuckin cool.Captain Sensible....fuckin asshole.Best oldschool band EVER though,is the Vibrators,Just cause I want a shirt that says "The Vibrators". i have the Smash it Up 7" b/w Burgler... i'm cool I've got a secret I won't tell, I won't tell , I won't tell!! I've got a secret I won't tell, I won't tell, I won't tell!! Something legendary? Yea ok man...Is it the long awaited Misfits reunion? Or maybe Black Flag? whatever settle down, dont keep secrets to yourself, it makes you sound like a loon. TONS of bands have reunited, and not even close to "every punker in the US" came to see...eg TSOL,X,Adolescents,Damned,Sex Pistols, Dead Boys, Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedys...even if Darby Crash rose from the grave and the Germs reunited in LA, most of the kids would be from La. Jackass For all you people, I must say that....there is something legendary coming up in LA soon, but I don't want it to be packed with every punker in the US, so I'm not gonna say what it is. The Damned fucking rule. I would have given anything to have seen them with the original Misfits back in '79 right before Glenn got arrested for bar fighting in London. Danzig even wrote his Samhain song "Archangel" for Dave Vanian to sing, but they never got around to it so Danzig Glenn did. Saw them on halloween. Wrote a review of it, hopefully it'll be posted soon. Great set. Great album. |
