| Brand New / Hot Rod Circuit / Eisleylive in Seattle2003 live show Review by: Ryan See others by this writer Only registered users can post comments Published on November 21st 2003
There are very few bands that are able to transcend small clubs to larger venues and do it well. Weezer did it. Face to Face did it. And dammit, Brand New can do it, too. Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
Just remember grasshopper, All you little fucks rock your diesel jeans and your white belts! Just to hop in...brand names for those purposes are pretty much absurd, but brands are also a good thing. Prime example....Levis. I have never seen a pair of jeans that could last like a pair of Levis. And Coca-Cola. Man, you ever tried Sam's Choice, or Food Lion cola? Ugh, gives me the shits. Exactly... But I think brand names know their consumers too well to be totally innocent. i agree with what bsd just said. "you people are ridiculous. anybody can like any type of music they desire. who's to say that someone doesn't fit the image for a certain syle? not you. most definitely not anybody. these bands make music and write songs for people who can relate to them. just because someone is dumb enough to get caught up in clothing hype and pay too much for crappy clothes, doesn't mean they don't feel. you all need to get over yourselfs and get back to enjoying the works of art that your favorite bands have created. and appreciate that these bands are having success in drawing a diverse crowd." boy, you sure are concerned with brand names and retail stores. the people wearing the clothes probably don't think about it nearly as much as you. huh. So Eisley goes from playing amphitheaters opening for Coldplay to playing clubs with Brand New? you people are ridiculous. anybody can like any type of music they desire. who's to say that someone doesn't fit the image for a certain syle? not you. most definitely not anybody. these bands make music and write songs for people who can relate to them. just because someone is dumb enough to get caught up in clothing hype and pay too much for crappy clothes, doesn't mean they don't feel. you all need to get over yourselfs and get back to enjoying the works of art that your favorite bands have created. and appreciate that these bands are having success in drawing a diverse crowd. This score is for Harvard sweaters. This band is not as narly as everyone thinks. Thats great how you were able to turn your akwardness in high school and your lack of money to purchase decent clothes around into someone else's problem. You are a fag. I bet you're a fucking liberal too. oh. i forgot. this score is for stealing shit from abercrombie. blah blah blah. so many of you are talking out of your ass. it's so punk to judge someone on what they are wearing and whether or not they like the same band as you. it's also really punk to throw around words like "gay," "homo," and "fag." if someone wearing an abercrombie t-shirt can keep up with me at a show, then fuck yeah. this reviewer sucks. i hate when people complain about "their" bands blowing up. isn't it good that more people are listening to more varieties of music? whatever. BUT, someone mentioned strung out, which happens to be one of the best bands ever. so this score is for them. rock. Harvard sweaters are fucking shitty. Worst review ever. Happy Thanksgiving. YOu suck,. Yes give him the brazilian bands... The singer from Brand New loves him some deep anal! I'm going to start with the poppiest band I listen to, so you can relate to good music: Ratos De Parao! They're on a label called "Alternative Tentacles". It might sound kind of scarry, even scarrier is that the guy who runs it was in a band called "Dead Kennedys"! Gasp!!! But I think you'll love RDP. okay, my login name is ThisTimeIGotNothingToSay i'm not logged in. okay so: Brand New are a complete joke. what a horrible band. God, look what have we come to. Bananas are for gay faggots. i like bananas. if you don't like bananas, YOU ARE AN EFFING MORON AND I HATE YOUR GUTS. AHHHH! WHY CAN'T YOU JUST LIKE BANANAS???? I HATE YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!! I HOPE YOU GET LEPROSY AND DIE A SLOW PAINFUL DEATH! "I'd just like to know why you stereotype? I wear Abercrombie & Fitch & Hollister, okay? Nothing else. My favorite bands are (early) Alkaline Trio, Brandnew, MxPx, Descendents, Suicide Machines and TBS. I don't see what you're trying to say... Do you believe you own all music that performs punk-like music? Because you buy all the coolest shirts from Hot Topic & Pacific Sunwear you are the alternative music God. Everyone wearing preppy outfits is an intruder at a rock show. Tell all your friends that you're a moron. We all need to spread the word." i agree with this reviewer. since when is it too pc to have a punk mentality? honestly, people arent allowed to dislike jocks? what? No, you see ejaculine: The rumor I heard was that Jesse from Brand New, and John from TBS/Straylight Run both have cock rings, and they swing their cocks and the rings hit. I heard it at a show. What is funny is people fighting over musical taste. You suck cuz you listen to this... blah blah. You can't argue over taste... it doesnt make sense. If you don't like a band, you can say they suck, doesnt mean your right. This is just pointless. To the commentor below: please don't associate corporate whore stores with arrogant indie elitists. We buy all our swag from shows and thrift stores only. And please, develop a better music taste. We have enough people listening to this horrid rubbish already. i guess i'm one of those "frat boys." i wasn't at that exact show but, i apologize for hurting your feelings you stupid lush. To the anonymous comment posting guy below: I know. That's exactly what I said. It's still a shitty lyric no matter how you look at it. "to that jesse guy down there. fuck you buddy. he is talking about a girlfriend who was fake and wore lots of makeup and didnt respect his band." Hey is this reviewer Ryan S from the strung out board?? "to that jesse guy down there. fuck you buddy. he is talking about a girlfriend who was fake and wore lots of makeup and didnt respect his band." Going to see them in a couple weeks in Toronto ... I saw them open up for Face To Face last year and they were great to that jesse guy down there. fuck you buddy. he is talking about a girlfriend who was fake and wore lots of makeup and didnt respect his band. yeah. no one sits out hotrod circuit. he must be pretty foolish. sorry about tomorrow is a solid release. moron indeed. dealt with..? reviewer, I think the fella who commented below "And to say that our scene is tiny when your not even from here is pretty stupid," got a little overeager. jesse. To the anonymous poster a few below: The singer of Brand New takes it in the pooper! The girls in Eisley are three times dope! it sounds like the reviewer. is trapped in his own paradox. he likes his pretty little world, and doesnt want it to be disturbed. he is his own worst enemy. i'm 18, and i got that shit handed to me in High School (only a year ago). and i go to the same school as them, and have really befriended them. I can't believe you skipped HRC...they fucking rule It was John not adam. There was a whole group of bands that kind of were at the core of the scene around three almost four years ago (see movielife, Glassjaw). if you haven't heard of the bands they are reviewing, that would mean you haven't heard of: pitchfork's ratings dont mean shit anymore. it used to be rare for a band to score over a 6. Now, if you have one clever lyric on you're entire cd, it deserves an 8. And you haven't heard 90% of those bands because you have a head inserted into your ass. Actually, there's an interview in the new Alternative Press where they interview Brand New. They say the dramam is more over that Taking Back Sunday still sings "There's no 'I' in Team" when it was written by one of the guys from Brand New and one of the dudes who left Taking Back Sunday. So Brand New doesn't feel they should be singing it. "There was a bit of competition between the two bands and then Adam Lazarra (TBS frontman) hooked up with Jesse Lacey's (BN frontman) girlfriend" Scott... the Brand New / Taking Back Sunday drama is somewhat complicated, but I can tell you about the amusing drama fairly quickly. "If they rated this band higher than Elvis Costello and Death Cab For Cutie, than obviously this magazine is geared towards the mainstream music which Brand New caters to." And the revolution will be quick, and swift. Your lungs will be eaten, and I will cook your liver over a spit. And when I am the only viable opinion left, you will suffer under my tyranny of good music. This score is for me. way to be judgemental. eapically making your judgments by clothing. that is what music is all about. i didn't have anything to say so i decided to post something hateful. Just cause I keep hearing about it... "can the people that review shows here actually hang out and watch the entire show? " yeah, its kids like that that get the emo kids so depressed. "Brand new is probally one of the worst bands ever. And kids weairng abromcbie shirts is just as bad as liking emo music. Those emo kids are so depressed its funny." jesse C'mon funkisdead. Let's rip this shitwhore to pieces. you know, i must have add. i went to pitchforkmedia.com to check out the brand new review, but thought i'd check out some frank black and the catholics reviews. afterwards, i ended up scrolling too far... so i just read a burning airlines review. next, i checked out the mars volta through clicking the link on the sidebar, and then ended up reading about mogwai on amazon.com. the fact remains, however, that death cab for cutie will always be better than brand new. no question. Brand new is probally one of the worst bands ever. And kids weairng abromcbie shirts is just as bad as liking emo music. Those emo kids are so depressed its funny. spectra sonic sound!!! guys keep the noise low, she doesnt want to blow it.. bn isnt well known at all, why should anyone expect a huge crowd to their shows, thats ridiculous! .... o and the scores for the review, you suck buddy can the people that review shows here actually hang out and watch the entire show? If they rated this band higher than Elvis Costello and Death Cab For Cutie, than obviously this magazine is geared towards the mainstream music which Brand New caters to. I went to this show in miami... here's how it went Shit. Note to reviewer. No offense to any of the editors; in fact, I generally agree with the editors on this site. Damn it all. There goes all the credibility of the last post. Note to editor: You like Brand New. There is no way you are an indie rock "snob." You are a bitch with horrible taste in music. I am an indie rock "snob." Because I hate you for liking bad music. And as for someone wanting to wear Abercrombie clothes, let them. Don't be angry because someone else has a different taste in style than you. And the fact that these "douchebags" like the same type of music as you do must mean something. what the fuck? you left during hot rod circuit?? they are easily the best band of that night. would have been the only reason i went. Don't hate them because people over hype them. Another indie rock elitist who cries when bands becomw successful without listing his name in their album-thank-you-notes for "being there from the start." No wonder people beat you up in high school. You probably sucked then too. i don't post here much, but i love reading some of the comments here. ...but then again as the reviewer said, I DO live in a biosphere... Brand New suck balls. End of story. This review was good, but here's how I would make it better: it's funny...i live on long island and JUST found out who Brand New is - their feud with TBS is so retarded. fuck, am i actually getting in the loop with stuff going on where i live? uh oh... wow, i disagree with that kid below me. orange island and fucking hot rod circuit are way better than the other two bands. Saw this tour in Philly... Honestly dude, I dress what you would probably consider 'preppy.' Not all of us can just continue to slouch around in torn jeans and faded black shirts. I thought the review was good. well put above me....simply average but worth a listen. I am however, going to the Toronto show. Picked up the LAST ticket yesterday. I'm still looking for another one. If anyone can help me out, drop me a line Whoever wrote this review is a dumbass. Brand New is hype personified. There is so much talk about this band and their music doesn't even come close to backing it up. They are totally average, they are not Audio Jesus like everyone says they are. |
