"There's a glossary of dirty words for people just like you.
And only for people like you, I reserve the words:
Backstabbers and money whores, and dirty rotten millionaires
that always wanted more."

This is the chorus of "Taste The Red Hands," the first track off Dead Poetic's New Medicines. While I give the band points for using the word "whore" in a song and not having it be a cheesy pop-punk track about an ex-girlfriend, I must also point out this chorus' main flaw - it tells you exactly what the band sounds like for the rest of the album:

  • There's screaming [but in their defense, it's never too much, and it doesn't sound forced or fake].
  • The music is heavy but keeps a strong sense of melody, with lots of mini-breakdowns scattered across it's landscape [ala a more concise Thursday]. You know what this sounds like.
  • Recorded by Aaron Sprinkle, you pretty much know how this sounds like what it sounds like. The sound is that of instant recognizability, even if you've never even heard of Dead Poetic before.
  • Since it's on Solid State, you know that the band will be skirting around the issue of Christianity [see the very Passion-Of-The-Christ-like "The Dreamclub Murders"].

You've already formed a pretty good idea of just what Dead Poetic brings to the table. But I'm not willing to write them off so easily. This record, while long and a bit bland at points, shows a lot of potential and definitely delivers on intensity and energy, something a good majority of their peers in this "emotional post-hardcore" field sorely lack. If the group can just consistantly hone that energy and turn it into stronger songs like "Taste The Red Hands" and "New Medicines," they'll have a strong future atop marquees nationwide.

honestly, the emphasis should have been more on "scene kid" than "religious". I really think "scenes" tend to give people values and ideas without giving them the world experience to justify those values. Those lyrics posted in the review are just regurgiated ideas. As far as religion, that's just another way for people to assume knowledge without having experience to back it up.

And someone mentioned Norma Jean earlier as a good christian band. I wasn't comparing Dead Poetic to them.

Haha its amazing how close minded and stupid you are. It really makes me sad to see such ignorance. I really would like to know why you think your so smart and bettert han someone who has morals and self control. What is it? why are you so much better? thats right, your not. Morons , like yourself, who post on here need to grow up.
not liking music because it doenst fit your likes doesnt mean it sucks, means you dont like it..... and this CD is really good, I dont like norma jean, this CD is nothen like norma jean. I don't know why you even compair this too it. just shows how musicly retarded you are.

BSD, I'm repeatedly impressed by the depth of your musical taste (you made me relisten to Guitar Wolf, which I am very thankful for) and you saying you're 16 just seems weird. You obviously started listening to music at a very young age and in large concentrations.

Could someone please explain to me what is so different about Christianity that makes it subject to a different set of rules than any other belief system? I understand that there are overzealous Christians who try to shove their views down people's throats (there's a guy like that who preaches on my campus), but I think it's totally unfair to judge an entire religion based on those people, who in my experience make up a rather small portion of Christians. Why are bands with Christian beliefs dismissed so much quicker than bands with any other beliefs? If you think bands with Christian beliefs suck, go see Norma Jean. If their live show can't change your mind, I don't know what can.

How old are you silly, immature cunts? I'm 16, and even I'm not outright prejudiced against an entire peoples. You're fucking assholes. If people want to believe that an invisible man is sending me to hell, I'll let them. It's not what imaginary place you go to in death, it's what you do while you're on Earth.

I haven't heard the album yet (except for the two mp3's), but I do know that music is fucking music man. The genre's don't matter. As long as I don't see Dead Poetic sucking MTV's cornhole, then I'm fine (if the music's good).

this band isn't bad at what they do, it's just boring. i remember i heard some songs from their first album and like them, so i bought it, but when i listened to the whole cd it just didn't hold my interest.

i have their first album and i was disappointed with it. i thought i'd dig it from what i had heard, but it was a bit of a let down. i'm not too big on the first song, but the second one works, probably because it's not trying to be as heavy.

as for the whole christians suck debate........i used to be christian. i'm definetely not anymore, but fuck off about saying bands suck because they may sing about religion. like it was said earlier, bands sucking is a problem, and frankly a lot of christian bands do suck......really badly. but to say that singing about religion or spirituality means you suck is saying that some of the greatest bands of all time suck.

So what? I hate when people act like being a christian band is a huge downfall. I'm a christian, but I don't say "Blah blah blah is a secular band, so even though they rock, I hate them" I know, there are lots of shitty Christian bands, but there are alot of shitty secular bands as well. being a Christian band isn't a bad thing...being a bad band is a bad thing
