Review by: greg0rb See others by this writer The Militia Group (link) Only registered users can post comments Published on November 12th 2004 This a DVD comp, but not a comp purely to promote the label's bands-only 3 of the 13 videos are The Militia Group bands-it is just a collection of music videos. The popularity of the bands are pretty middle-of-the-road indie label bands with the exception of the major label Thursday and All-American Rejects, but all the bands put in decent quality footage, and it is a decent watch overall. I will give a brief synopsis of each, so let’s get to it before this gets out-of-hand long.
1. A Static Lullaby “Lip Gloss and Letdown” – Pretty standard screamy emo fare, but well done at least with a video to match. Simple yet effective, it shows the band playing with some nice camera shots, quick cuts and on-purpose shaking, this mixed with some morbid imagery of course. But my favorite part of the video is how they are wearing the typical tight black clothing with black hair, but then you’ve got the one guitarist with natural red hair wearing a white Nerf Herder shirt. I can picture the other guys before the shoot saying, “Dude, why don’t you wear your AFI shirt?” Special features include a making of the SOIA video, where a guy takes you through the process of creating a scene of the cartoon. I found it interesting, but it is not displayed in a very exciting manner. “Punk Rock Pads” is a guy from Anadivine (who I’ve never heard of) showing off his home, his parents’ home that is. It’s moderately funny, more funny in the way they rip-off Cribs than what the dude actually says. There are also two interviews, a five minute one with Murder By Death, which would only be interesting if you’re a fan, and one with Number One Fan, another band I’ve never heard of and was therefore not real exciting. There is director commentary on every single video, which I thought was real cool, even though most of them just are the band giggling and making fun of themselves. Some actually interesting ones are Rufio, SOIA and Thursday, in which I found out that their video was directed by the same guy who did Refused’s “New Noise” video.
You probably only needed a list of the bands to decide whether you would buy this or not, but I tried to do you one better. Personally, I think this will sit and gather dust for the most part; maybe I’ll pull it out for one or two of the videos now and again.

As it happens i've seen almost all of these videos on MTV2 and Scuzz in europe. Pretty sure headbangers ball (which is sent over from the US) shows them too. I hate to say it... but what everyone needs to realize is that these videos aren't available anywhere else.. I hope all these comps do well so MTV takes notice and stops airing endless reruns of the Real World. As it happens i've done a few, dating back as far as four years, they're just not under this name. "a lot of people who post on here don't know thier ass from a hole in the ground" For an example, see below. How in the name of holy assgate did this dude get to be a staff reviewer. sick of it all suck but thrice are good this is the most bullshit new label aound. God damn i hate Thursday Sick Of It All blows......but so do the rest of these bands......with the exception of Thursday. Sure, i hate emo and that nu-puink wave that all the kiddies these days are joining, but Thursday is one of the few that stand out among this genre, and i only say this because i have seen them live, (opening for Thrice and Deftones, wicked show, but needed more Thrice....) and almost walked away to get another beer when they came on stage, but was surprisingly impressed with their performance. Its still not my cup of tea, im a good 'ole skate punk fan, but i give 'em props for putting on a great live show, and actually proving themselves to stand out among the other manufactured generic emo bands these days. With the exceptiion of SOIA, i can't name a single song or album by any of these bands. I guess I can breathe a sigh of relief. i hope sick of it all made some terrible mistake and signed the papers to get on this accidentally. LAME. I love how the cover art totally rips-off Strung Out's live album! Why are Sick Of It All and Every Time I Die on this video? i hate everything about this. That looks awful. Listen to the Copeland vid's director commentary, it's hilarious. who did the only thing good about this dvd? who did the cover art hOLY FUCKING DAMN! The only good band here is Sick of it All Poor ol' Geoff really got the British dental treatment What the fuck is SOIA doing on this peice of shit? |
