Pitch Black’s self-titled debut is apparently regarded by many as a competent profile of East Bay punk, albeit one that borders on AFI plagiarism. So after three years passed and the addition of a keyboardist in Jeremy Goody is factored in, it’s hard to say what the next logical step in musical evolution would be. I doubt it’s This Is The Modern Sound, but maybe that’s what gives the band’s sophomore effort its charm.

Their first album was pretty damned good., I must admit...... This is the best thing I've come acroos in a while. Most of you are whiny, complaining idiots. You just don't get it. Same here, classy all the way This score's for the band taking the time to participate in this message board. Well, I think it rocks a bit, but it's no Operation: Mindcrime. Hi everyone--This is Jamie from Pitch Black here. I'm excited to see people talking about the album (good or bad, it doesn't matter to me!) "DON'T CARE about the past bands enough to dwell on a particular genre/decade....None of us can ever see them again. So maybe you should support the new bands that put out good quality shit like this band did with this release...." I love their first album and the split on lookout with The Enemies. Plus the art is always great but somehow this one doesn't sound as sincere. like they're trying to be different when they should just rok. speaking as a slight fuddy duddy, i just listened to some of their songs on myspace and this isn't bad. one song did remind me of jehu/hot snakes, but the rest is kind of gothy punk that sounds a little like classic old so. cal. stuff like the adolescents or tsol. but faster and produced better(?). I've rarely seen a more ignorant comment on this board. Appreciating history is very different from being stuck in the past. Pitch Black doesn't stand up well to its peers, let alone its forefathers. "Remember when CA punk was the greatest thing in the world? I miss those days." joe you're an idiot. afi ripoffs? what the hell are you listening to? if anything they're new record is a jehu ripoff, and that doesn't matter this genre hasn't been beaten to death, like punk has. "Remember when CA punk was the greatest thing in the world? I miss those days." I just got my hands on a copy of this today, and I must say that after listening to it 3 times in a row......It's my new favorite record! It sounds very little like their older stuff. But that's not necssarily a bad thing! "Remember when CA punk was the greatest thing in the world? I miss those days." I believe Kevin Cross used to play for the Nerve Agents. Someone from the Nerve Agents is in this band, right? Isn't it Dante? I really like these guys. Saw them open for Alkaline Trio a few years ago and was very impressed. I wouldn't say they border on AFI plagiarism. And that's coming from a devoted AFI fan. I thought you knew and were just being silly. Damn, really? Anchors you know they are broken up right? Speaking of Revalation, I want a new On The Might Of Princes record. Eek. Awful cover art. The fists look all wart-covered and bubbly. "Pitch Black’s self-titled debut is apparently regarded by many as a competent profile of East Bay punk." holy fuck!!! rev releasesd something good!!! I liked the split they did with The Enemies, and I think I'm going to have to check this out. yeeaach. This is bad. AFI rip offs is appropriate. this is horrible. Remember when CA punk was the greatest thing in the world? I miss those days. |
