Wow! I am SO impressed with this album. After recieving a Borders Gift Certificate, I went to the store, looking for a good CD, I wanted a Boy Kicks Girl CD, but I couldn't find ANYTHING I wanted. Then I stumbled upon this album by The Get Up Kids, I had remembered a few songs I had previously heard by them and liked, so I bought it. I didn't really expect much at all...I just figured i'd get another regular old punk album that works as good background/mosh-with-yourself music...but I was sure as hell wrong.

The energetic tracks of this album get me pumped, but the softness of some tracks are purely nice on the ears. The lead guitar kicks ass almost as much as the singers cute sounding voice. The lyrics are awesome, and each track is just...too damn kool. My favorites are "Don't Hate Me," and "Stay Gold, Ponyboy," they just...blarg, they're so amazing.

If you wanna get a cd, or even if you don't want a cd...just fucking buy this!!! It is one of my new favorites!!!

CD's great qualities:
1. Catchy, but not toooo catchy.
2. Kool punk riffs
3. Kool lead guitar
4. Kool lead singer
5. AWESOME AMAZING LYRICS
6. Every track kicks major ass

...and there are a lot more, so just...buy it..

One of the best CD's from the Get Up Kids. The All Star Ep was the best. But this one is amazing as well. Too bad they suck now.

Heh, I don't own the album but I have dl'ed most of the songs and I think they're great.

While I'm posting, I'm gonna ask if any of ya'll have noticed that almost every post gets some wanker that flames the band, then flames the person who asked them to stop flaming. I wonder why that is? Can't you just say "It's not for me," and go on your way? Let's all play nice, all right?

using the word "gay" is not homophobia. it is immaturety...-fathead

yea the get up kids are incredible...all of their albums are good...the new one "eudora" which is a collection of unreleased tracks and rare songs is probably their best though ...but jukeboxbully you are one of the fuckin stupidest people...kool punk riffs? kool lead singer? kool lead guitar? singers cute sounding voice?...you are a douche bag...go and buy a boy kicks girl album, you queer.

The album was "remastered" and re-released by doghouse and put in a different cover. That's why it looks different.

    YellowTrash (August 20, 2001)

What the fuck? The album is kickass, but I didn't get that cover of the album. What's the deal with that?

toally not KOOL review, get up kids are so punk too...lame ass

I like the Get Up Kids' music a lot. Mostly their newer stuff, but that's not the point of this post.

When I saw them open for Weezer, one of the guys in GUK was trying to convince us the audience that we shoudl thank Yahoo for sponsoring the tour, as if Yahoo was doing it for free and not slapping their corporate logo on everything (which they were) and constantly mentioning their brand (which they were). That's the kind of ignorance and corporate sell-out-loving you hate to see in any good indie band. I'm hoping that that guy was just really drunk (they sure played like they were hammered), but it still kinda bothers me.

Oh well, at least the Reggie shows should be off the chain.

I don't know, I kinda like Kool Keith, 'Dr Octogon' is a pretty decent album. If you're like me and sick of the same old bullshit in hip-hop, Kool Keith is a welcome change. He's not as lame as the DMX idiot. It kinda pissed me off at Warped how all the kids flicked him off and chanted "Fuck You". If you don't like him, thats fine. But don't be a prick to someone trying to bring a little diversity into scene that is hard enough to get respected in.

    thank you JukeboxBully

kool keith is a spacy/random rap artists who sucked up the stage at warped tour. i listened to a couple of his album tracks a long time ago on napster and they were pretty cool, and i was expecting something pretty cool at warped tour, but man, he really stunk. jurassic 5 is way, WAY better.

ps. the get up kids suck almost as bad

    fathead

    JukeboxBully (August 1, 2001)

one- no "gay" useage over here, thats just not kool

three- who the hell is kool keith? i certainly do not know. call me stupid.

    punk_kid (August 1, 2001)

oh yeah just one more thing i bet everyone is goin to call me "gay" or "fag" now right?

    punk_kid (August 1, 2001)

havent heard this one yet so i duno if its good i just wanna say, why is everyone calling one another "gay"? what the fuck? is everyone here homophobic?

    Anonymous (July 31, 2001)

I completely LOVE Get Up Kids. Something To Write Home About is one of my all-time favorite CD's. But I hate this CD. It's awful... All the songs sound the same and the recording quality is so terrible you can't make out a thing. Why can't I like this?

    DrNo (July 31, 2001)

If you bought "Something to Write Home About," well then i'm sorry. You should've definitely bought "Four Minute Mile" or "Woodson", those two were on Doghouse not Vagrant. Those cd's are as slow and mellow. 4MM is a really good cd to have if you get in those kind of moods where you don't want anything fast-paced or hard. If you haven't already checked out GUK, start with "Four Minute Mile", otherwise you won't really like them.

    Anonymous (July 31, 2001)

a review is not a story about how you bought the cd. also the spelling of "kool" conjures up images of kool keith.

    Anonymous (July 31, 2001)

whoops, i forgot to sign my post, so here it is again. the get up kids fucking suck! for the longest time, all i heard was "man, you have to check out the get up kids" or "the get up kids are great man, they're super talented and they can rock hard" so i bought "something to write home about" expecting something miraculous and what i got was one of the worst cd's i've ever payed for. never had my expectations been so high and then fell so far. fuck this band and the crappy emo-pop they rode in on- fathead

    sickboi (July 31, 2001)

The reviewer gets a 10 for his name. I still haven't decided if I like the Get Up Kids. The can rock but other times they just whine too damn much.

    Anonymous (July 31, 2001)

This album has great songs on it but the production quality sucks. It sounds like it was recorded in a cave; too many sounds get blurred out. They re-mastered it and it sounds a little better but not nearly as good as the new stuff (or the first EP for that matter).

    Anonymous (July 31, 2001)

    get up kids fucking suck

    coldjuly (July 31, 2001)

Yeah...hes right how can something be too catchy...this CD is very good. This is what got me into this band. These guys hate being called emo.
