Anti- Records -- One Day as a Lion

Well, Since Relationship of Command came out last year, At the Drive-In has been one of the hottest bands in music to some...even after their hiatus which lead to their breakup earlier in the year, I figured I would review a record by this band not known to many...But what I consider their best effort to date.

I feel this record has much more emotion and the band is more together. Virtually unheard of in 1998, This was the record to raise many eyebrows of the public....I first heard this in late 1999 when the band was starting to get more and more exposure. Even though they had at least 5 or 6 records, 7 inches and eps out at the time, This is the record I chose to buy.

I was utterly amazed when I heard The opening to "alpha centauri" to be serious my jaw kinda hit the floor. I had heard nothing like this before...especially on fearless records..which at the time were known for mostly pop punk records. The 4th and My favorite track on this record is the fucking awesome "napoleon solo". The song has so much emotion and you can tell a lot was just put into this one song. The entire record is just hard to put into words......Thats why I'm having trouble with this review.

This record quickly worked its way on to my top 10 list....after you hear this I think you will know. I dont exactly know how you would classify this band, but fuck labels....This record speaks for itself. If you bought 2000's relationship of command I recommend you give this record a try. I think it will become #1 on your fave ATDI list. also check out "acrobatic tenement" "vaya" ep, all their split records and other material you can find.

"were struck by the chords from their hearts, this is forever, this is forever, from the texas breath exhaled no sign of relief...you know that this is forever."

this is the best atd-i album. but track for track, vaya is their best release. in/casino/out only gets the nod because it has 11 tracks compared to 7.

I don't know why anyone thinks this band is good. Sure they're original but they still suck. They're not even punk at all. I haven't even listened to this album but i've listened to three of their songs on don't be scared comp and they suck cock. and i'd give 0 stars if possible but this gay forum won't let me damn it

you guys are idiots. i actually KNOW the band and believe me, they are broken up. Ced and Omar were being dicks and couldn't handle popularity. So jim and the rest of the crew made SPARTA, soon to be the next big thing. And by the way, ROC and AT are both better than this album

what Im saying is NO they didnt break up, ATDI told a tx fanzine that they might as well be, because you wont be hearing any new atdi material for a long time.

I think this album is great, but Ross Robinson's producing (I heard he uses some badass techniques) and the better songwriting on ROC just blows this away...

    My Score:

when i first heard this band, i thought this might be the worst music i've ever heard, but after borowing "ROC" from a friend, the more i listened, the more i liked. it takes a lot of getting used to, so i would definitely recomend more than just a couple listens. i haven't heard any of their older stuff yet, but i will definitley check it out one of these days.- fathead

No its not just rumors anymore....Jim told a TX fanzine that they might as well be broken up because you wont be seeing anything by ATDI for a long long time. The band is however working on side projects....but as fat as ATDI is concerned, they might get back together but they might not. But for now they are broken up.

Great album, i was blown away when i bought Relationship of Command last year but In Casino out is definitly their best album. But the rumors of ATDI breaking up are still only rumors.

I fully agree...as great as Relationship of Command is, this is better. Acrobatic Tenemant is great too, really jangly, but good.
