Fortune would have it that the Mind Controls' song "Death Cult Shoot-Out" was followed in a recent shuffle by the Skatalites' "Guns of Navarone." The classic ska song was recorded in 1964 while the punk tune was tracked just this past September in Montreal. "Navarone" is tinny, low-fidelity, quite washed out at times and clearly a product of its time and place in a fledgling music industry. The 42-year-old track also sounds a few notches cleaner than anything on Mind Controls' new full-length.

This is probably one of the best new bands out there. Then again Mark Sultan is in many new bands and will be in many more. It would be great to see them live, but ... jesse michaels is pissed "les sexareenos and the spaceshits should be mentioned here." Hell yeah it will, they played a bunch of stuff from it at the Chicago Blackout. Their last one was album of the year material. les sexareenos and the spaceshits should be mentioned here. I like this, but not as much as the King Khan & BBQ stuff I've heard. I really wish I could find that album on LP, because it's killer stuff. Yeah, they're hitting K-zoo...I can't wait! My band actually got to open for them once, which was just about the coolest thing we've ever done. Everything Mark Sultan has done is pretty much awesome. He's rolling through my town with King Khan pretty soon. It's going to be good. If you want to hear a great album check out the King Khan & BBQ Show on Gonner records. With me, Dirtnap is pretty hit and miss(this being a hit with me).....But I'm a big Mark Sultan fan already. Caught these guys live a few months back, and it's much better in person. I like it, but there is a lot better stuff on dirtnap, the new absolute rulers is going to be rad (even though it is on green noise which is dirtnap just a seperate branch for just northwest bands). | Features
