It's punk like this that really makes me proud to hail from the east coast. This record was their debut for Epitaph, and it was clear the band wanted to make a huge impression here. The Souls were (correct me if I'm wrong) the first band on Epitaph to come from the EC. I think they helped bring forward such varied acts you see the label showcase today. But that's beside the point, The point is, this is one great recording through and through. Just so simple sounding, but with complex melodies, great guitars and thundering, sometimes breakneck drum beats. Such songs hold a special place with me. This was hands down my favorite album of '97 and for good reason...But I'm not gonna bother going in depth too far here. The labels and catagorizations have flown all over, but why bother with all that, it's quite simple They just play music that they feel is true to them..none of the generic pop circulating through popular radio nationwide..the Souls could care less. "Cracked" "K8 is Great" "Eastside Mags" "Single Successful Guy" "Serenity" "Holiday Cocktail Lounge" and "Shark Attack" are a few of the great songs that round out this very solid recording. This is a testament to show that they have come a long way since their conception way back when. 16 sing-along anthems from the newly relocated L.E.S. BMX brothers. NYC style at it's very best. This album rules.... Afi sucsk and the souls rule so lawrence cuntington can sucka nut way too short i feel like i wasted my $16.99 on 26 min., though "i like your eyes" is a cool song even though you can barely understand him singing If I was given the chance to buy this or a different album at the shop I would have probably gone for a different album. This record is very very average. it just goes on and on sounding very samey. I have listened to it around 10 times and i have had it 2 years. The bouncing souls are alright but not amazing. This album sums them up altough *Vacation their latest album is developing a bit more style. Good Album, perhaps there best... I like these guys still and respect them, but just not feeling the lastest albums. :( Larry Lawrence...i have been to various sections of this website today, and in every section, you have made a retarded comment that someone has called you on. also, what's with your affinity for saying things about AFI? that's all...i'm not a big bouncing souls fan. Yeah I remembered that right after I sybmitted it. Dag Nasty is DC but technically as they did write, record and actually live in L.A. at the time of four on the floor. Ahhh who cares? I need to quit trying to sound so smart. I like splitting hairs. Dag Nasty were actually the first band epitaph had signed from the EC (to my knowledge). When they released their album on epitaph, they has already relocated to LA. I liked this souls album, it's the only one I own by them. Good Band Good Album *Larry Lawrence*...you must first remove the plastic outer wrapping of the CD, listen to it, and THEN comment about who they sound like and if they suck or not... Aparently none of you actually paid attention to gladiator, and yes, the Bouncing Souls and AFI are worlds apart in that one is from NYC and the other is from Berkeley. I stand corrected. AFI still sucks though. I can't change that fact. Sorry. Larry Lawrence: you are a fag I don't know how this sounds like songs from Gladiator or like AFI. It's a grea album end of story. What about "Say Anything"? Thats tha shit. Yah, the Souls and AFI are two worlds apart, what the fuck are you talking about? Great album. The bouncing souls dont sound a thing like AFI what the fuck are you talking about. You are crazy. The guy forgot to mention East Coast Fuck You, one of their most known songs. But Cracked is my favorite song by them. That song is amazing. Decent album, but sounds a little too much like all those songs that were in 'gladiator'. Do you remember that? Those songs were cheesey as hell. I wonder if the bouncing souls had any input. Their new one is their best album, but only because they copied it practically note for note from AFI. However, AFI somehow manages to suck. I just don't get it. Good album, I like Maniacal laughter the most though. |
