White Stripes ‘may never tour again’

After cancelling all tours for 2007, The White Stripes's frontman Jack White has suggested he might like to pass on touring indefinitely. When asked by the Los Angeles Times whether the touring hiatus would come to an end, he replied:

I don't know. I guess it's up to Meg. The Beatles did it [quit touring but continued as a band]. I'm joking, but if we didn't ever tour again it wouldn't matter to me. here are so many different aspects to being creative that it doesn't matter if one component is changed. It's been changing all the time since the band started.

If something [touring] isn't working for you and it's detrimental to you, then you have to figure out a new way to attack it, a new way to look at it. I think that's what Meg's doing.

The band released Icky Thump this year.

I think it's a good thing. Why not have Against Me! as the band of the week? It signifies to me that people are tired of music with no depth to it whatsoever.

And it's hypocritical too. People are gonna bitch about this band at their computer, but when they roll into your town, you abso-fucking-lutley know that you'll be there with "one fist in the air."

The only diffrence is, you'll be hoping no one is watching.

I think that you are giving people who watch MTV and believe that MTV is the alpha-omega of music a bit too much credit. Don't get me wrong, I would be rather happy if people who listen to the radio and/or watch MTV (and other music channels) actually wanted music with depth as you put it. However, it is my belief that they want nothing more than something to which they can "nod their head" or something that "can make them move." If you think I am wrong, consider Rage Against the Machine fans.

I was there with "one fist in the air" last time they were in Melbourne. It's almost impossible to do it without knocking out little 18 year old girls who are only about waist high.

And I'm only 5'7" !!!

Seriously though. The last time I saw them would make me seriously consider not seeing them again. The band still kicked ass, but what's the point if everytime you move there are 8 people around you asking you to stop knocking into them.

That was the point that I realised Against Me are inaccessible to people like me.

I can respect what you're saying, but where I disagree with you is their accesibility. Obviously, they are accessible to you or you wouldn't have been there.

Theres other people there that maybe shouldn't, but music is made to be heard and preformed (contrary to this actual Posts' context.)

At the worst possible scenario: They sell "Stop" to Verizon for the Juke commercials. Absolute best: They become a gateway band like Offspring, Weezer, Green Day or Blink 182.

I didn't care that they were on a major label, or that the music had changed, I still liked it and just ignored what people were saying about them.

But it was that point in time that I realised they were no longer offering what made me love them in the first place.

haha so after reading that guy's post above expressing his disappointment that Against Me! was MTV's band of the week, i turned on the TV and all of a sudden heard the song "Stop" being played for a commercial for "itsyoursexlife.com" about how to make better sex decisions, including abstinence. wonder how much they got paid for that?

i'm a social libertarian; i disagree with Paul on a lot of economic issues. however since him and Kucinich are the only true anti-war candidates, i will support both of them because that is the number one issue right now.
also - while i dont agree with Paul on everything, this notion that he is pro-corporations is entirely wrong. not only does he not accept ANY donations from corporations (unlike your darling Democrats, minus Kucinich), but he also supports ending corporate welfare (also unlike your Dems)

Clinton and Obama are much more favorable to corporations than Paul ever has been or ever will be. but i'm sure you'll support them anyway.

I would have loved to see this band live, but if he doesn't like playing enough to care about doing so...well, fuck that. And you're making music why? Not like it's worth my 50 bucks anyhow, though.

Also, the Beatles stopped playing live because it was logistically impossible. The White Stripes don't have 1/10 that audience.

Can't Jack White just get a small amount of those nodding bird figurines. Make them a bit bigger, dress them in red and white and then do the following.

Place one on the tom
Place one on the snare
Place one on the bass drum
Place one on the crash cymbal

Then all he has to do is set the timing at the start of each song and presto.... we have Meg White's drumming replacement.
