All-American Rejects plan September release

All-American Rejects have announced that they will be releasing the follow up to 2005's Move Along this fall, on September 16, 2008.

The album follows the band's lengthy hiatus which began in 2006. In that time, some members of the band collaborated with Ben Weasel on his latest solo album, These Ones Are Bitter.

Didn't this band have to scrap an entire album because the label didn't think it was catchy enough? The second one had three or four good pop/pop-punk songs, but the vast majority of it just felt thrown together - a really different feel from the first one. I'm mildly curious about what the next album will sound like from a stylistic perspective, but I'm not enough of a fan of theirs to check out the whole thing.

I don't care what the rest of you say, these guys write ridiculously catchy songs and I can't help but love them.

Also, their work on Ben Weasel's last album gave it a depth Mr. Weasel never had before.

I've never liked these guys. Even when they played at a local coffee house for $5, I didn't like them then either..

I'm surprised Ben Weasel likes these guys...

They're pretty great guys.

Mike is rad. Check out some of his former bands, such as Euclid Crash. Ask him about his Propaghandi tattoos.

Don't assume they are douches just because they play poppy music. I know it's true 95% of the time, but in this case, it's not.

Mike and Chris are the balls. Old school 5th and Littler guys who have more punk cred than most on this board regardless of what band they currently play in. And although I'm not a fan of AAR I respect those two for staying true to themselves.

amen. I'm not a fan either but i've got nothin but respect for those guys.

ben collaborates with them because they're clearly comin from the same place. Ben weasel, since day one, has been bringing melody and "bubblegum" back from the grave that most post-ramones punk rock bands buried it in. Not to say AAR is a punk band...but it's a band of guys who grew up on punk making pop-rock, DRIPPING with the bubblegum and cheesy catchy hooks you just don't find anymore.

i guess my knee jerk reaction to the weasel-aar thing was negative...but anyone who puts more than 30 seconds thought into it has gotta see how much sense it makes. not to mention these ones are bitter turned out fucking great, so who's complaining?!

I've never understood how making poppy music made someone a douche. Considering all the truly terrible music out there, the ability to write a catchy melody is anything but douchebaggery.

Now, I won't argue that a lot of poppy bands happen to be complete assholes, but I just can't understand how one could draw the conclusion based on the poppy-ness of a song.

It was the drummer and guitar player who are just fill in guys anyway. They don't write this crap. If some tall guy with dreamy eyes came up to me and said "I'll write the hit songs, you just have to tour stadiums and play power chords for six months a year and you don't have to get a job" I would do it too.

I don't know about the guitarist for sure, but the drummer was on the record. I have a vinyl version and I recognized him as soon as I looked at the artwork.
