Media: Ben Nichols: "The Last Pale Light In The West"

RCRDLBL has posted an interview and free download from Ben Nichols. Nichols, the frontman of Lucero recently announced plans to release his new solo debut.

The record is titled The Last Pale Light in the West and is due out January 20, 2009. Nichols entered the studio this past August with Rick Steff (Cat Power, Lucero) and Todd Beane (Glossary) to record this seven track mini-LP which features songs inspired from the Cormac McCarthy book Blood Meridian. Nichols self-released a download-version of the album earlier this year.

Anyone else ever read Cormac McCarthy's 'the road'? It's a real easy read and is one of the better post-apocalyptic scenarios I've ever read. It's really stark with some great descriptions. I think Viggo Mortensen is gonna play the father in a movie adaptation of it.

I am halfway through blood meridian right now but I'm having trouble reading it. The writing is awesome but something about his prose makes me have to reread thesame passage over and over to comprehend it.

Love this record. It's the kind of country that makes you want to sit in a dingy bar and cry in your whiskey. Good shit.

also if you haven't read Blood Merdian, you need to pick that shit up and read it before Hollywood puts out the (probably) mediocre movie version that they're working on (which should be rated NC-17, unless they leave out like a third of the book).

It took me a while too. There's so many of the conversations that I had to read more than once to figure out who was speaking and what they said.
