The Get Up Kids record new material

In an interview with Phoenix New Times, Get Up Kids frontman Matt Pryor has revealed that the deeply influential and recently reunited band have recorded nine new songs:

"Um, there's new material. We've written and recorded 9 songs, and they are being mixed right now. We're not really approaching it in the traditional "we're gonna put out a new record and do the touring cycle" way. We're gonna [do] more fun stuff, like good vinyl and limited edition releases. Cool shit, not just "here's the new CD." Everyone has so much going on it really works better for us that way."

The band had been posting photos from the studio via their twitter page. No other information is currently available, but we'll keep you posted. The Get Up Kids are currently on the American leg of their reunion tour, coming off the heels of the 10th anniversary reissue of their seminal 1999 full-length, Something To Write Home About.

This makes me so sad to read this from you. Get Up Kids opened for Green Day on the second leg of the Warning tour, and 17 year old me was so very, very sad that it came no closer to me than Cleveland.

Sounds cool in theory, but the last two lps were really boring, and had a huge lack of energy.
Hopefully, these may be a little more lighthearted.

Seeing them in October and I'm mildly stoked. Everything pre-Wire is some of my favorite music of all time, but they apparently (based on an AP interview with Matt) are not stoked on most of their fans feeling the same way I do about their catalogue. So that means I'll probably have to sit through a bunch of garbage from Wire and Guilt (unless they play "Man of Conviction", that song rocks) to hear what I came for.

And on a related note, I'm planning on hating the new material. That way, if it's even remotely good I can be pleasantly surprised.

can't wait to finally see em' here in oklahoma october 1st. i missed them the last time they played here which i guess was their tour before their "final" tour. gonna be a good time for sure!!!

On a Wire was a great indie rock album and, all these years later, I'm finally warming up to Guilt Show. Four Minute Mile was great, but not their best work! Geez, people.

This is great news. But what's with all the bitching about Guilt Show and On A Wire? Both albums were fantastic. People love to jump on the "their news stuff sucks" or "I liked them before they were famous" bandwagons. I see this crap all the time and all it does is prove that you don't have nearly as good of a taste in music as you think you do. Is it a punk thing? Is it because The Get Up Kids aren't a traditional "punk" band, so people on a site like this can only justify liking their older material because it was less produced and in some cases, kind of crappy? I don't know about you, but I thought the new Dillinger Four and Propagandhi albums were their best so far. I think maybe this is just one of those taboos in the punk community that doesn't really make sense, sort of like how deciding that you don't want to be poor as shit and living on the streets anymo

I saw them live in Birmingham a while ago and they played a new song. It was so bad. No one I talked to after the show liked that song.
