Green Day is considering a movie version of their new "punk opera," American Idiot, according to MTV.com. The disc, which came out on September 21st, is a concept record that follows the life of a single character, the Jesus of Suburbia. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said, "We've definitely been talking about someone writing a script for it, and there's been a few different names that have been thrown at us. It sounds really exciting, but for right now it's just talk."

Armstrong jokingly suggested getting modern punk rockers such as Rancid's Tim Armstrong or Good Charlotte's Joel and Benji Madden to play roles in the proposed movie, like the 1975 film of the Who's rock opera, Tommy, which cast musicians including Eric Clapton and Elton John.

The group may also release a documentary about the making of the album itself. Director John Roecker filmed the recording sessions, about which Armstrong said, "There's a lot of creative hijinks going on in more ways than just playing music."
