Documentary filmmaker Julien Temple, responsible for the definitive Sex Pistols documentary The Filth and the Fury as well as the infamous mockumentary The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle has announced plans to tackle one of the Pistols' most famous - and loved - contemporaries with an upcoming film.

According to MTV, Temple is planning a documentary about the late Joe Strummer and has this to say:

I'm working already on a project about my friend, Joe Strummer, from the Clash, A film about his life. Not so much about the Clash, although they were obviously a huge part of that. It's a film about Joe, about the man, the story of his life, the music before the Clash and after the Clash -- as well as about the Clash [as a band].

Though Strummer tragically passed away in 2002, Temple had already shot many hours of footage to be used in the film. Temple added:

From right at the beginning, I have footage I've never shown, really. The early Clash before they signed a deal, their first time in a recording studio -- that will be interesting to finally use that, but I've also got stuff with [Strummer's last band] the Mescaleros, and just hanging out with him through [the years]. I don't want to sanitize him or make him a saint, but I do want to celebrate him.

The filmmaker will likely concentrate on the film after the upcoming release of Glastonbury, his documentary about the world's biggest annual rock concert
