HYAMP to close its doors
by

The Huntington, WV-based Huntington Youth Area Music Project (HYAMP) will be closing its doors. In a post by the organizers of the venue/organization they cited the sale of the building that HYAMP resides in as contributing to this:

The building we are currently in is being bought out by an outside source, forcing us to move out and start over. We hope to continue putting on shows under Hyamp Productions at other venues while we search for a new home. We are trying to move the shows we currently have booked to other venues, but some may need to be cancelled. This website will continue to be updated giving information about any shows we put on.

The group is planning a final show for the project on March 7th featuring locals Holden Caulfield, Scenes from a Movie, Let the Guilty Hang, Beyond All Hope, Stockdale and Long Time Coming.

The project served as a concert space for local and national bands during it's existence.

Note from Justin: On a personal note, when I was forced to move home to Ravenswood, WV in 2004 I enjoyed quite a few shows at HYAMP and that were put on by the related zine, Cornzine. It's truly a shame to see something like this come to an end in this part of the country, given the increasing attacks on all-ages venues in other, more "metropolitan" areas of the country. Hopefully Rich and all the other guys involved can find a new place to set up shop.
