Cartel have begun work on the follow up to their 2007 major label debut, Cartel:

So we just started working on the new record last week. We had to clean up the practice space a lot though. We haven't used it to write since last year. It's been all storage since then and let me tell you, It was crazy how much stuff we had in there that we actually use. we thought there was a lot of junk we could go through and chunk but no dice on that. so we did that all day Tuesday then set up our gear for some good old fashioned jammin'.

We worked through a couple songs last week which is pretty good for dusting off the cobwebs and starting over with new tunes. it takes a little bit to get back in the groove but we're there now so we're looking forward to knocking this thing out over the summer. we'll take some pics of the space and post them up here so you guys can check out what we've got going on. we'll also be starting to record some practices and get some new jams coming. i'll shoot out another update at the end of the week with our progress. hope all is well with you guys and gals.

The band controversially recorded the album in a sponsored Internet-linked "bubble" and received criticism for what was described as a "marketing ploy" and a "stunt."
