Lemuria

Punknews recently announced Food Not Songs, a cook book being published by us and Suburban Home Records. In the months leading up to the book Punknews will be publishing recipes, many of which will be available in the print edition. This week's recipe comes from Alex Kerns and Sheena Ozzella of Lemuria. The band released Get Better in 2008 as well as an Under the Influence 7" split with Off With Their Heads.

I often am entertained by artists, cooks, and people who live by the expression "less is more". Stop trying so hard. Sometimes the simple shit can be the best. Dipping licorice and mayonnaise is not impressing anybody, just like nobody cares that you're playing a 6 string bass. That's why we're presenting a mild, delicious, and easy to bake recipe for you to enjoy in your own home. So grab your favorite apron, get your tush in the kitchen, put on a Wipers record and don't fuck this one up. Bugbear Squares

1. Preheat oven to 350

2. Lightly grease square baking pan with oil or butter

3. In a large bowl, mix:
- 1 cup of flour
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/8 tsp salt

4. Once the mix looks sufficient, add in:
- 1 cup of oatmeal (quick oats)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter, softened and cubed

5. Squish it with your hands until the the mixture forms into little clumps.

6. Place 1/2 of the mixture on the bottom of the oiled pan and press down evenly. Don't neglect the corners!

7. Add one pint of blueberries to the top of the bottom layer of oatmeal in the oiled pan. Leave about an inch margin on each side of the pan. Do not put blueberries near the edge or the corners.

8. Sprinkle some cinnamon on that shit.

9. Place the rest of the oatmeal mix on top and press lightly. Bake @ 350 degrees for 35 - 40 minutes until the Bugbear Squares appear golden brown.

10. Eat em.
