Here's your question and answer of the week from the Punknews Formspring:

Q: Why is the "punk" community so concerned with the label/ term "punk", and in turn less willing to be artistically critical of anything that falls within this label? It just encourages mediocrity. Oui? Non? A: I obviously can't speak for everyone, but I couldn't care less about labels and terms when it comes to music or communities. Most people, I think, are the same. Folks like what they like and dislike what they dislike; any person that isn't completely full of shit lives by this mantra. As far as encouraging mediocrity, at its core that's nothing more than an opinion regarding the music itself. If you don't like it, listen to something else. No one's putting a gun to your head. -Bryne
