Here's your question and answer of the week from the Punknews Formspring:

Q: why don't bands like to read press about themselves? A: The bands I've spoken with either read as much of it as they can or try to avoid it altogether. I think that falls under the "If you discount the bad press, why care about the good press?" umbrella.

That said, reading press about you or your band seems like it could be very complicated. Say your band is putting out a new album and you release a new song and say, "This is the best thing we've done and it's influenced by (whatever)." You make that statement, that is exactly what it means to you. then it's out in the world and that statement is no longer yours. It's open to interpretation, inference and the mood of whoever is reading it. Someone may take that and completely throw it out of proportion or even take offense to it. And in the digital age I don't just mean readers, but every two bit press outlet who gets press releases and puts their, "special touch" on them. When that happens to everything you put out publicly, I can see it being very tiresome.
