Rock and Roll Hall of Fame opens library and archives
by

Billboard is reporting that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has opened its library and archives to the public this week, with a formal grand opening coming on April 9th. The library and archives, which exist at the Center For Creative Arts on the Cuyahoga Community College Metropolitan Campus in Cleveland, OH, off-site from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum, houses 5,500 items, including books, audio recordings, DVDs, and periodicals, as well as academic dissertations, personal collections, and artifacts that aren't on display at the museum. The entire facility is four-stories and 22,500-square-feet.

Andy Leach, director of the project, states that "Ever since the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was conceived in the early '80s, the Library and Archives was part of the original vision." The archival collections are meant for research purposes, and appear to have limited public access, while the first floor of the building, open entirely to the public, features a reading room and eleven multimedia work stations. The facility is also equipped for larger educational events the museum plans to host in the future.
