us that the Dismemberment Plan have decided to call it quits. Here's a bit of their statement from their website, click READ MORE for the full thing:

"After a few months off, and taking time to think about it, we've decided to break up the band… There will not be a next album by the Dismemberment Plan. Travis will be going into the studio in April with some songs of his own, and probably a handful, or maybe all, of the songs we worked on as a band to record a solo album. No word yet to which label will release his record. Of course, the remix record is still on - we have 9 or 10 keepers, and are hoping to get another one or two before putting it to press. The remix record will be on DeSoto. And we talked about possibly releasing songs that we've worked on that won't be on Travis' record. For now, all options are open…"

The band currently has a few shows scattered along the East Coast in February - click READ MORE for those also.

In terms of playing live, we're going to continue playing the shows we’ve booked this winter, and I’d assume a few more will be added this spring. We’re seriously considering a last tour of the States in the early summer and maybe something overseas this summer if we can work that out. We’d like to play Fort Reno too.

We realize that the question "why?" is going to be asked more than a few times, but we really don't know if we can answer that anytime soon. Or ever, for that matter. The best answer we can come up with is that we felt like we'd accomplished all we could as a songwriting and recordmaking unit, and that we wanted--as individuals--to try things that can be precluded by living the lifestyle of the touring musician.

We certainly still love to rock the stage, and the shows just get better and better (the recent insanity with Miss Spice at the Black Cat is proof of that,) so we have talked about continuing to play irregular shows in DC--like playing Ft. Reno once a year, or doing benefits for things we think are important. We all agree that that sounds kinda fun. It obviously depends on where our lives go and whether or not the Dismemberment Plan remains relevant to the DC music community, even in retirement, so we'll just have to see about all that.

We’ve been playing as the Dismemberment Plan for almost 10 years now, and with the current line up for almost 8, which is almost an eon for D.C. bands. It’s been more fun than you can imagine, and there are times when I still can’t believe we get to play music for a living. But I’ll save the goodbyes and thanks for August, when all of our work is done.

Until then, keep posted for more info about shows, and we’ll let you know if we’re touring this spring/summer as soon as we know. News of the remix record is around the corner too.

Thanks,
-Eric / Dismemberment Plan
