Soundcloud to introduce advertisements to streams
by

Music streaming service Soundcloud has announced that it will soon include advertisements in its streams. At first, advertisements will be through the invite only "On Soundcloud" program wherein artists will be able to monetize their tracks by allowing commercials to play before streams. Artists will then get an undisclosed percentage of revenue gained from the stream advertisements.

Following that, eventually Soundcloud plans to introduce a paid subscription service where paying users will not get any advertisements. Various parties have stated that this move may be a result of the company trying to make itself look more desirable for acquisition by a bigger company.
