Famed L.A. D-I-Y venue The Smell will likely shut down. Three days ago, the venue received a demolition notice on its door. the notice was from L&R Group of Companies, one of the largest parking lot owners in the United States. Every building on the block received the same notice. The Smell's owner Jim Smith spoke to LAist: “I suppose the signs have been there for many years, but I've suspected something like this was coming when our building was sold a year ago. … I plan to do whatever I can to fight or delay this.” The venue opened in 1998.
