You may remember the debacle of the Fyre festival from a few months ago- the idea was that patrons could buy tickets to a premium festival for thousands of dollars, be flown to an island, and enjoy music, five star accommodations, and a whole bunch of other rich people stuff. Ja Rule featured prominently in the marketing and origination. It did not go as planned. The festival was canceled after it had begun because the island site was wildly unprepared, there was shortage of food, employees were not paid for their work, bathrooms were backing up. and many of the musical acts had not been paid. Attendees were evacuated from the festival as it was happening (some by helicopter).

Billy McFarland, festival co-founder, has been arrested and charged with wire fraud by the FBI. In a release, the FBI said "“McFarland allegedly presented fake documents to induce investors to put over a million dollars into his company and the fiasco called the Fyre Festival. Thanks to the investigative efforts of the FBI, McFarland will now have to answer for his crimes.” McFarland is currently out of the slammer on $300,000 bail.
