Detroit music fest planned to charge white people double POC, changes plan after backlash

August 3 is AfroFuture Fest in Detroit. The organization initially announced an unusual pricing structure before changing its plan following backlash. As reported by the Washington Post, initially, Early-bird tickets purchased before July 17 cost $10 for people of color, and $20 for white people. General admission was $20 for people of color, and $40 for whites. A portion of proceeds would go back to Afrofuture Youth, the community initiative hosting the event.

The organization received a significant amount of backlash and has now changed its policy. Going forward, the price is $20 fgor everyone, though white people have a suggested donation on top of that. That's described as a "Non-POC suggested donation." The festival stated that the change was due to racist threats that it received. You can see the festival's statement below.
