NME is reporting that The Hives recently recently previewed their first new material since 2000's Veni Vidi Vicious at a Swedish awards show in Gothenburg. The band played the new song "Walk Idiot Walk" at the radio awards. Always humble vocalist Howlin' Pelle Almqvist commented "This feels as if it could be song of the year… It feels like we've been in some sort of a stalemate for a while but now we've come back. It really feels great."

Guitarist Nicholaus Arson also spoke with NME "It doesn't say too much or too little about our new album… You could say it is a bit wilder, and perhaps has a more monotone movement than the old songs, and so the new songs are a little longer too."

The band's new record is expected sometime this year. There's no word how earlier label disputes between Sire / Warner and Universal played out.
