Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses (2002)

Victory

Southern California is renowned for continually producing some of the best punk rock and hardcore bands on the scene today. Atreyu will change your perception of the emo, hardcore and punk scenes from this area.

Atreyu is that squalid piece of yourself that you conceal, deny and cover. Hailing from Orange County California (Taken, Thrice, etc), their latest full length "Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses" pioneers new directions for the world of melodic hard rock to follow. They make metal more accessible, emo more painful and haunting; with a powerful foundation that screams "hardcore".

"Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses" shows a true progression in not only the band's personal taste, but their musical capabilities. Atreyu's earlier releases were characteristically more punk hardcore than their latest efforts, having added more melodic metal qualities to their style. The drum and guitar work on the album have a clean and distinct sound without losing that rough around the edges ‘post-hardcore' feel, which can be attributed to the album's excellent mixing and production. The lyrics reveal the lead singer's innermost thoughts and feelings about love, loss and everything painful.

Some excellent tracks to check out: ‘Ain't Love Grand', ‘Someones Standing on my Chest' and ‘Tulips are Better'. This is a great CD, whether you prefer metal, post-hardcore or punk-hardcore, everyone will be able to appreciate this album.
