Born To Lose (2014)

State of Mind Recordings

Canadian Punk quintet Elder Abuse released an EP last spring titled Born To Lose which continues to prove that Winnipeg is a hotbed for the excellent and various styles of punk rock among the likes of Propagandhi and Comeback Kid.

An 8 track EP that includes an acoustic version of "Beige Pants Were A Bad Idea" and a demo of the track "Live Free, Die Drunk", the lyrics contain various messages about life, the fear of growing up or not growing up in the case of the track "See Ya Later, Moondog" which is arguably the best and longest track on the record going just under 4 minutes.

The song starts up with a light guitar strum reminiscent of the intro to "Bikeage" by The Descendents and then singer Alex Guidry comes in with the line "I'm having trouble finding where I fit in, treading water not sure which direction I should swim'"- after a couple of more lines the whole band comes in with a nice kick and continues with the verse although best part part of the song is the the ending chorus where he is singing 'Sail Away, Sail Away' and the whole band chants 'Sail-A-Way', very catchy lyrics and melody.

Recorded at Raincity Recorders in Vancouver by Stuart McKillop (formerly of Daggermouth) and mastered at Nada Studios in New Windsor, New York by John Naclerio, the production is very top notch and spot on with the punk rock sound this band illuminates.
