Orlando Florida’s Suck Brick Kid has an intensive blend of sounds. With the energy of band combinations like Four Year Strong, Polar Bear Club, Make Do And Mend, and The Bouncing Souls, Suck Brick Kid packs a major punch with their gritty anthem punk rock. The band’s newest EP, The Beast Goes On compiles seven gritty, melodic and often times fast punk songs that are heavily influenced by the band’s predecessors.

Right off the bat, the EP starts on a heavy note with gritty melodies that drive the band’s sound home. “Believe” is a song extremely reminiscent of The Bouncing Souls with its melody and repetitive choruses that are easy to sing along to. While the song isn’t extremely original, the band does add their own spin to it like they do with majority of the rest of EP.

The EP follows in this format of gritty punk rock songs with a melodic edge to them. The band does try to throw in some originality to their songwriting. Including Steven Hawking dialogue, gang vocals, and catchy choruses. Otherwise, the album is filled with material that seems to be overused in this day and age. While the band tries to generate their own sound, it seems like they’re still finding their way.

The Beast Goes On is a anthem filled punk rock EP with some great sounds from Suck Brick Kid. While the band lacks major originality, their ability to generate punk rock that fits the mold is pretty impressive. These songs have a lot of elements of other bands, but that’s not to say that the band isn’t onto something. Further down the line, it’d be nice to hear Suck Brick Kid come into their own.
