Home Remedy (2015)

Self Released

On their new EP Home Remedy Brisbane, Australia’s Columbus deliver four energized songs in all of 10 minutes. Believe me that is a good thing. The first song “Downsides of Being Honest” almost made a believer out of me, but the gang vocalized sappy lyrics (“You never called!”) seemed so misplaced that it took this fast paced piece of punk and turned it into cheese.

It’s not a total disaster and there is a lot of potential here, such as some nice sounding clean guitar at the beginning of “Toss & Turn,” but in only four songs these guys actually manage to be somewhat repetitive. Not only are they repetitive musically but the songs are all love songs, not inherently a bad thing, and that really only serves to bring the energy factor down a bit.

The redeeming factor is how quickly it’s over. Like I said there really is a lot of potential here, but it definitely isn’t realized on Home Remedy.
