Human Collateral

Of Human Bondage (2017)

Self Released

Human Collateral, a small punk band out of York Pennsylvania, released an album at the beginning of May 2017. Not even being a band an entire year, Human Collateral recorded a collection of songs that bring fast paced drum beats, distorted guitars and politically charged lyrics. Of Human Bondage finds the band searching for their footing. Some songs are d-beat inspired with the band relying on blastbeats and pummeling sound. Other songs are more in form of more modern hardcore with screamo style lyrics and huge, ringing riffs. All the songs do seem to have a core of the classic era of hardcore- a fair share of both punk and metal. The result is an album that has the speed and ferocity of punk, but also has the hard edge of metal. As with many hardcore bands, the band touches on political issues without really digging into them very deeply. Maybe they wanted to touch on a certain feeling without forcing an opinion down the listener's throat. The best songs on the album are probably the first song, "Nonconformity" as well as "Eat It," "Why All The Nationalism?" and "No Shame." While many of the songs can be extremely raw and energetic, other songs on the album can drag on or even seem uncoordinated. The band is still finding their footing, but may develop more in the future.
