Whole Wheat Bread

Minority Rules (2005)

Fighting

To see that this album wasn't reviewed kinda shocked me. Whole Wheat Bread isn't the biggest band, but big enough to have their album reviewed by now.

Anyways, the debut album by the black trio is suprisingly catchy. You can definitely hear shades of old Green Day in these tracks, and you can tell that Blink-182 was a big influence on them (in fact, people have always joked around, calling the band "Black-182"). In songs like "Miss Perfection" and "Feel Like Shit," you can tell that Whole Wheat Bread are your everyday pop-punk band, but there's something about these songs that make them so catchy, you'll put this album on repeat almost immediatly.

Standout tracks on this album are "Overrated," "Loud and Clear," and the lead single, "Old Man Samson." When "Old Man Samson" starts to play, it has a country-esque beggining, then goes into a sing-along type of song, especially the chorus. They pull it off so well, you'll be suprised when you're singing along too. "Overrated" seems like it can be a second single, and talks about issues today with celebrities and how they get publicity for whatever they do. I personally think this could be the best song on the CD, maybe because it's pure punk, or it actually speaks about something that is, in fact, overrated.

I've seen Whole Wheat Bread live 4 times, and each time they get better. This album is no different. The more and more I listen to it, the more and more it gets better. If you're looking for some stuff that brings back older Green Day, you got it right here.
