Dropkick Murphys / Sick Of It All

live in San Diego (2001)

live show

I went to this show by surprise. I've never heard Tiger Army's Music up until then and I've only briefly heard Sick of it All's music. As for the Dropkick Murphys, I know of them, but I only know a couple of songs by them. So this became a night of new experiences for me.

The night started quick. None of this beat around the bush crap with some horrible opening act. I can't say how much I liked that. Los Angeles 3 piece band Tiger Army was first to play. The fact that they had a stand up bass player was impressive in itself. They were definitely a psychobilly band in every sense of the word.

Sick of it all must have felt like comedians because they were cracking jokes all night. Are they usually like that? I wish I knew the band so I could talk about what songs they played. I know its all you really want to hear… They did sound pretty prepped for their upcoming live album, though.

Boston based band the Dropkick Murphys had an Irish folk song playing while the crowd awaited their appearance on stage. I can't say any band has ever built up my anticipation as well as they did. They played "Amazing Grace" in honor and rememberance of the September 11 tragedies and had the crowd singing along. They did a "Braveheart thing" that made me laugh. They split the floor into two sections and had them run towards each other and hug each other. I don't think it worked like it was supposed to but it was still sorta funny.

I apologize for not having something really in depth. I had an awesome time and basically what it comes down to is, go see these bands play. No joke. It's worth your money, even if you don't know them like me. You'll be a fan when the night is over.
