Go Vegas

Satyr (2009)

self-released

Go Vegas come from Salisbury, Wiltshire, England and play a brand of newer pop-punk that you've heard many, many times over, but it's sometimes done decently enough on this EP, Satyr.

"Broken" comes with some sparkling production touches, but throws in a few New Found Glory-centric guitar chugs and a usual fast tempo that proves the immediacy of the energy levels. "You Won't Believe What I've Seen" drags out its central hook a little too much, but "Stay Quiet" cuts the tension with a skatepunk pacing and clearly melodic hardcore-influenced changes.

While this EP sometimes teeters a bit too far over the pop side, and in somewhat dull form, it's easy to hear Go Vegas' potential to get a little rougher and adventurous. For now, this is hardly awful, but still a few marks short of being something special.
