Guitar Hero: World Tour adds NOFX, Bad Religion and Rancid

Guitar Hero: World Tour has added three of Epitaph Records' most important bands in a new track pack. The set, available now on XBOX360 and PS3, features NOFX's "Linoleum" from Punk In Drublic, Rancid's "Ruby Soho" from ... And Out Come The Wolves and Bad Religion's "21st Century Digital Boy" which is presumably the Against the Grain version, not the Stranger Than Fiction version since this is the "Epitaph" track pack.

Never liked these games. Especially when I see them played at parties and the one guy playing on expert is looked like some sort of god. But Perfect Government and Modern Man would have been much better selections.

Teaching yourself is not hard. Just go online and learn basic chords; know the names of the strings; find the major and minor scale online. Then once you have an okay understanding, LEARN SONGS BY EAR. Sit in your room and listen to a song you like and try to play it. Technique and basic understanding of music will come to you whether you like it or not that way. Also, don't give up.

Music is about fun so play what you love and you'll save lots of money on shitty lessons by shitty college students.

Well, seeing as how I pretty much gave up a couple years ago, I suppose not much. But prior to that, I would mess with my acoustic every day. Personally, I would think getting a friend to help would be most beneficial, but I don't really know anyone. Also, I hear starting on electric is actually easier, agree or no?

Yeah, you have to press less hard. I played electric guitar for 6 or 7 years before I picked up an acoustic guitar. The callouses on my left hand got WAY thicker.

Electric is easier, I started on an acoustic. Possibly the reason why you couldn't get anything to sound right is you can get certain tones and embellishments with an acoustic. You really get what you put into the instrument. I guess I was lucky and had no friends for 10 years that all I could do was play guitar.

First thing I did was learn to read tab. I don't know if that'll help you, but it helped me to have some sort of visual to figure how the song was supposed to go (and hopefully, adjust things if your tabs are pretty bad.)

Learn to read tabs, but don't rely on random fan-submitted tabs to learn real songs, because they're gonna be at least a little bit off every time.

It helps to learn the basics of keyboard/piano first, and that's definitely something you can figure out yourself in a week or two.

Yeah, my mom has been a piano teacher for like 27 years so I've learned some from her growing up. I'm not at all an experienced piano player but I know the basics at least. Is guitar similar at all?

It's a completely different feel when you're playing it, but if you have even the most basic understanding of music theory (which is easiest to pick up on piano) then figuring stuff out on a guitar will come much more quickly to you.

And don't listen to all the "you can't teach yourself, take lessons" bullshit. Anyone can teach themselves, and you'll be able to develop your own style and get comfortable playing your own way. I've been playing for 7 years and I still hold my pick backwards.

My cousin has a boyfriend that's lead guitarist in a band influenced by Glassjaw, Minus The Bear, Deftones ect so seeing them live kind of rekindled my interest in playing again. I went to their house a few weeks back and after everyone was drunk and stoned, they got into this huge sing-along. I'm not a fan of Dashboard Confessional but after hearing everyone singing and playing "Standard Lines" or whatever, it really made me wanna take up the instrument. Not THAT bad of a song actually.

I taught myself. Not that hard.

Learn chords (A, Am, C, D, E, Em, F, G, etc, the basic ones)
You can learn to play by ear if you just play along to some songs, all you have to do is get the rhythm, because you can always play different chords to what are actually being played by the band/musician, as long as it sounds like the song you are playing.

But if you want to play technical stuff you have to learn scales. And it's easiest to have lessons for that. Teaching yourself scales isn't fun and can take a very long time.

But the best (funnest) is just to learn chords and make up music as you go until you realise you are playing stuff that you like, and keep learning more complex chords as you get more comfortable with what you already know.
Sometimes I can sit for hours just playing random stuff.

well, he could just learn major and minor scales and barre-chords (which are fucking hard to play as a beginner, especially on a western acoustic) as that would give a sense of the structure behind songs and overall music theory (2nd and 6th chords are minor etc). or he could find blink182 guitarpro tabs from the net and start with them, as they're perfect for a beginner.

I wouldn't take lessons. learning by yourself may take longer or it may not; it can go either way. if it does take longer, it's still going be worth it because you'll end up with a style that's more individual

well I'm just talking cheesy easy chord progressions, not any shreddage or anything. Like Ninja Gun's .....kitchen kissers. I was like...."I know I've heard that before" and I figured out the whole thing in like 3 minutes. Same with shit like, Blues Traveler, Runaround. Songs that are like the same four chords for 3 minutes.

I'm finding I'm starting to build my left hand strength. Do you have any tricks to help get stronger though? It's not a real expensive acoustic, which, I'm hoping might actually pay off if I ever get a better one.

What I did to build up strength in my left hand is basic chromatic shit:

I've tried to get off playing open chords in the past few months and that has definitely helped. This feels like viola lessons all over again.

I've been trying to get Dispatch - The General down pat for the past week. And feeling like a frat boy douche the whole time. But yeah, now living alone especially, the git is never out of my hands and I'm always dicking around with something.

Holy shit that was great! The biggest asshole in sports and the biggest assholw in Vegas got what he deserved. Kyle Busch is an absolute prick. That was awesome. Now maybe we'll get some rasslin' over it.

I don't watch a ton of nascar. A little here and there and I always try to catch the last 20 laps if I'm home. I can certainly see the arguments for why it's great. But all the usual jokes making fun of it are correct too.

But then they ended the telecast with a Buck Cherry song. And then they played the "rights are prohibited" commercial dealy that all the sports have and it showed a bunch of idiots doing the wave.

Thats nascar for ya'. Hit or miss. Watchable and ridiculable all at the same time.

i went to a party last night. i got there late and the beer ran out almost immediately after. there was this one guy who brought his own and was just giving out beer, but i pitched in on a beer run. right after the people got back the host was asking people to finish their beer and leave. the party had gotten dead.i drank some and bagged 6 up for myself. i just got home an hour ago and realized i fell asleep last night with an unfinished beer. the damn thing tasted the same flat as it does fresh.

Then I highly reccomend those shows for you. "Spaced" finally came to DVD. Only had two seasons and also has Nick Frost as, whatelse, Pegg's best friend. "Eastbound & Down" just had the 1st season come out on DVD, was new this spring. Worth the $20 where I bought it at (which is cheap for an HBO show). Only downside is it's six episodes, but worth it.
