According to this article in the Portland Mercury, an acetate disc of 1966 Velvet Underground studio recordings turned up earlier this year at a garage sale in Chelsea, New York. Recorded during a one-day session for Columbia Records, the record contains early versions of several songs which would be re-recorded later for The Velvet Underground and Nico (the band's debut LP), including "Venus in Furs," "I'm Waiting for the Man," and "Heroin." The owner of the record - which was purchased for 75 cents - has turned down an offer of $10,000 for it, and it could conceivably become the most expensive record ever sold, "exceeding the sale of Bob Dylan's Blonde on Blonde acetate and topping $40,000."
