June 10th, 2007
by Sunday Edition

It's Sunday June 10th, 2007. I suppose when tasked with making some quip about the week that passed, most media folk would say something on the trials and tribulations of a certain wealthy socialite heiress… but that's not the way things work here at the Org, so what do you get from me is FIN FANG FOOM! The most fearful menace of them all! What more could you possibly want?

The people must have something good to read on a Sunday

So I'm looking at the magic mirror which reveals the week's biggest articles and I see a virtual hype race between Against Me! and Strung Out. First we had Against Me! teasing their video for "White People for Peace" with some streaming music while Strung Out previewed Blackhawks Over Los Angeles with some new music of their own. A few days after the initial hype we had Against Me's "White People for Peace" video and Strung Out's "Blackhawks over Los Angeles" album stream. That's the way to run a railroad, kids. Rage Against The Machine took it a step further, creating a countdown to something mysterious to get people talking. Guitarist Tom Morello took some time out of his busy guerrilla schedule to chat with Socialist Worker as well. Around here all Propagandhi needs to do is sneeze and they'll get grassroots hype. The announcement of a new album in Spring of 2008 takes it a step further.

This week saw Courtney Love claim that Linda Perry would produce the next Green Day record, and the band flat out denying that. We had news that A Wilhelm Scream have finished their next record as well. A set of tour dates were announced for Lifetime and the Bouncing Souls. They'll share the stage with the Ergs! and Static Radio NJ on select shows. Finally we had a new song posted by Throwdown. Oh, and we took some time to made fun of the "guyliner" thing again. Making fun of emo kids is somewhat of a sport around here.

This week also saw the tragic passing of John Pike, drummer of Syracuse, NY's Ra Ra Riot and Ben Hutson of Richmond, VA's Mancub.

Our Video Of The Week featured Brooklyn's Nakatomi Plaza performing a brand new song live in Richmond, VA.

Win a guitar from Chasing Victory
Need a new Peavey guitar? Well, it looks like the fellows in Chasing Victory happen to have an extra one and they want to give it to one of you. While they're probably pretty generous dudes, this particular bit of generosity comes as the band celebrates the release of their new record, Fiends. The album finds the band moving away from hardcore and metalcore and incorporating more melodic elements that have been compared to bands like the Foo Fighters. You can check out some music on their myspace page and you can visit this form to get your name in the running for the guitar.

The Used - "Lies of the Liars"
On May 22, 2007, The Used released their third full length. The record is titled Lies For The Liars and is their first since 2004's It is the follow-up to In Love And Death. Since quite a few of you are looking forward to this one, we decided to arrange a little prize package including a $25.00 merch gift certificate, the new record and their live record, Berth. All you need to do to enter is click the link and fill out a little form. Couldn't be easier, unless we filled it in for you. We aren't going to do that though.

Staff Blogs

When not writing about music on the internet, many members of the Punknews staff find time to write about music on the internet. You can check out the depraved musings of Adam White at 2:59, Justin August has some Kinder Words for you, while Chris Moran's all over the place with content rocking both MySpace and Flickr. Reviewer Jesse Raub posts short fiction and web comics to Things That Go Bump In My Head.

Jesse also recently launched Bitter Press, an online zine with recent collaborations from members of Akimbo, Capillary Action, Cloak and Dagger Media, and a motley trio of Org editors. The aforementioned contributed list of their recent listening habits to a feature called What You Should Have Been Listening To.
