Many were surprised to hear about Sonic Youth's recently announced partnership with Starbucks, with some decrying the move and throwing out the usual "sell out" accusations.

To this, the band's co–frontperson Kim Gordon has noted: "[Starbucks is] less evil than Universal [Music]."

Universal being the band's long–running parent label, having released all the band's music since 1990's Goo and following their run on SST and Enigma. The album itself will be a "hits" collection, but chosen by a variety of interesting figures including Jeff Tweedy, Beck, Marc Jacobs, Portia de Rossi [of Arrested Development], David Cross, Eddie Vedder and Michelle Williams
