While speaking with MTV, The Decemberists' frontman Colin Meloy said the band will begin to prepare their new album on July 28. Meloy describes the new material as "mossy and evil". This time around the band will not be recording with Death Cab For Cutie's Chris Walla, who produced their 2006 album, The Crane Wife.
