Roger from Rehasher Responds to Recent Opinions/Comments About Record Sales

Rehasher's Roger Manganelli has posted an update to respond to some of the comments posted in the wake of his comments about piracy earlier this week. Roger explained his feelings:

I'm not complaining about those numbers. It's obvious that CD's are a dead format, and I DO FEEL LUCKY that 60 people drove to a store and shelled out real dollars for a chunk of plastic. Rehasher has ZERO promo or marketing so any sales is nothing short of a miracle. I was curious though, what numbers would fans guess? As you can see, most guesses were well above 60, and I feel like there is an illusion that a band like Rehasher sells tons of records, and that somehow justifies downloading. It's not even about Rehasher, I just wanted to put this info out there and see where this kind of discussion would lead. If you downloaded or not, that is up to you. We all have our point of view.

Thanks for all the opinions and comments. I saw these comments have been continuing all over punknews.org, and I feel like I should clarify some points based on some comments and questions……… First of all, I love doing Rehasher, the guys and I are good friends and the music is fun.NEVER has this band about making money. We never have put even ONE DOLLAR into our pockets from this band, and that is just fine in itself. I'm just happy some people like the music as much as I do. The last Rehasher record for me was very personal, musically and lyrically……

I have spent the last 15 years on tour, and I did save as much as I could from the "good years" of LTJ. However, I am nowhere near being a millionaire, and have to tour to stay afloat. Still, I have no problems spending/investing my own personal money on Rehasher related things. I wanted Stephen to mix it, and I wanted Jason to master it. I love the way it sounds, and those costs, to me, are "worth it".

This is the first time I have ever released a CD myself. Knowing that sales would be minimal, I wanted to keep things as close to home as possible. 60 CD's were sound scanned in the first month. That does not include vinyl or itunes. I sold about 30 CD's at The Fest, and about 50 CD's on the current LTJ tour. I should be able to make back some of the money I spent on the album. I would love to say "hey guys, here is some money from record sales, take a day off work and take your girl to the movies" but that's not in the cards.

Fro the record, I'm not complaining about those numbers.
